Start Up Question

I have been having a problem occasionally on start up. Right after i turn the key, the RPMs will drop way down and then shoot back up. It almost sounds as if it is going to die, but then it pops back up and seems to run fine. Yesterday the RPMs went up and down like I was pushing and releasing the gas pedal (which I was not). I have just over 40,000 miles. Anyone have any ideas?

Mine used to do that before I deleted. My brothers does it on occasion. It sounds as if it would stumble, usually 2 or three times.

Mine continued to do that after deleted with the Edge, but with EGR system in place, but the stumble was often accompanied by a puff of grayish smoke.

I think it was a side effect of the EGR system cycling when cold.

Put the Smarty on it and it has never happened again.

Well, Blakes title used to be "Happiness is a Smarty".

The EGR may be trying to cycle at lower temps causing the engine to lope, however I never had much of an issue even at -30.

Jt, Maybe similar problem. At start up and even after the truck is warm, it would idle up and down agressively almost stalling and rocking the truck. Sometimes less severe. Once it was so bad i couldn't get it down the street, no power, stalling and bucking (down the road) with no accelerator imput. I've come to stops and she wants to surge forward to the point I had to put good brake pedal to her to stop.

Had the truck in 5 times and the dealer hear did/ foung nothing. Yes, engine lights cames on. I can't explain my Hendrick dearler. Really clueless.

Tried another dealer after another eposode. Replaced egr first. Next time happened, code said soot on the turbo. Asked them to clean it. They tried and now are relacing the turbo. 5 days without my truck.

Hope this fixes it. Should I be asking to address anything else related to the turbo repalcement? 19,000 mile on an 08.

They actually replaced my turbo a couple weeks ago. I had code P2563. So far, so good. It only took my dealer a day to replace, I don't know why it would be taking yours 5.

Don't know what that code is but did they do it to address the start up issues desc in this thread? Basically, diagnosed on Wednesday pm and no parts in stock so due out Monday pm.

I think a part of my proplem is I use the truck very little and do a lot of short drives. Never tow. I think she wants some rough play to keep her happy.

Going to trade her in next week.. 19k miles and a loaded 08 mega. Kills me but i just can't justify the diesel vs gas cost. Am getting a 2500 w/ a hemi. May regret it...
