Thumbs up UPDATE: Second Oil Change Required At 6389 Miles

Okay, CEL code P0405 EGR Position Sensor Volts Too Low was what was wrong. Took it in this morning at 0700 hrs (MTN) and the Tech replaced the EGR control valve. Part on hand and ready for pick up. Now, unplugging the EGR should be my next step? I think I am headed that way...thanks for the replys. Bob

Okay, need an opinion or two. My engine light (CEL) has come on for the third time in three months, and I assume it is the EGR again. Called to take it in this past Monday, however the Diesel Tech’s at my dealer here in El Paso were booked all week and it won’t go in until Monday the 24th. Also the over head console just told me to change the oil again and my truck has 6389 miles on it. I can’t believe twice in less than 7000 miles. A little history on the truck, I bought it brand new (7 miles on it) at the end of April 08 upon my return from serving overseas. Drove it from Hickory, NC to El Paso, TX and have only used it five times. So I am sitting at three of the five uses it must go in to be fixed and now it will get its second oil change. Yeah, I know the word on the forum is, “pull heavy stuff, drive it like you stole it, don’t idle, and no short trips.”
At this point, should I tell the dealer to replace the turbo and other parts or just keep taking it in for a week at a time after each use?

the first couple of oil changes seem to go faster than the rest. I know that Dodge did some ECM updates to prolong the oil change intervals cause people were upset so you might want to have the ECm updated when it goes in.
What codes are you throwing?? Do the key on off on trick and see what they are. I will bet it is the P2262 not an egr issue. If it is an egr issue then just unplug it and drive it. It will help slow down the regen amounts, get you better milage and help keep the oil clean longer

Did you get any codes? Turn your key on/off 3 times without starting it, and leave it on after the 3rd time. A pxxxx code should show up in the odometer. What does the oil level look like? Did you change your oil last time or did the dealer?

Thats about the mileage on mine then I did the 2nd oil change. Have them check the boost sensor and tube off the trubo for soot too.

Okay, the code is P0405 (what is this one?). I also had the oil changes at the dealer, and the current oil level is good.

It is a P0405 on the code. Where is the egr plug located...if that is not a long question to ask.

Mine does that too, I reset it and change the oil every 7000 miles.

This is the code you will get if you unplug the EGR, which is what many people have been doing.. and having great results! 10%+ gain in fuel mileage, reduced number of regens and vastly reduced soot build up. If you haven't done it already, give it a try.

I think this is what I will do...I love my CTD dually, and growing tired of having it sit, because I don't want to go to the dealer on a regular basis. Thanks!

Pretty good service there? Dick Poe Dodge has been good to me, and I asked the service rep all the questions today when I took the truck in. Pulled my service record, and all is up to date. He said they catch hell from the customers with the 6.7, and I am just on my third trip!

If you go to Dick Poe, Talk to Ramon in service. He's the only guy I'll turn the keys over to.
