Proper Tire Inflation
Proper Tire Inflation
I have searched and cannot find the answer for my tire size.
I need to determine the proper tire inflation for my BFG 305/65/17E's. Tire shop (Kal-Tire) who installed told me to keep em 60psi all around. The max cold inflation is 65psi. So that's what I have done, but I see now that after 6000K, the center of my rears is wearing prematurley vs. the outside edges.
When I had 265/70/17E's (max cold inflation of 80psi) on there, I ran 60 in the front and 45 in the rear when empty which works out to 75% of max in the front and 56% of max in the rear. So using that methodology I should be running 49 in the front and 36 in the rear with these new ones since the max is 65psi.
I probably have over analyzed this to death.
PLEASE HELP!

Well I just brought my front's down to 49psi, and my rear's down to 36psi and they "look" just fine. Gonna take er for a test drive on my coffee break and see how they feel at these new pressures.
I've got a different tire but I always run 10lbs less in the back. Started out with 55 up front 45 out back. It seemed to wear evenly across the tread like that but on the last tire rotation I went with 65/55 to squeeze a tad bit better fuel mileage. You kind of have to try and see what works best for you. You'll get better mpg's with higher pressures but sacrifice even tread wear as a result.
