Non ULSD in 07 trucks?

I'm asking this question for a friend of mine who might be ordering two new chassis cabs for an off road race team. They are concerned about running non ULSD fuel in the new trucks while they are in Mexico. These trucks will travel a lot of miles in Mexico and bringing fuel from the states to run in them is out of the question. Is this going to clog the particulate filters and make them run like crap?? Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric

if it is the 6.7 engine- you'll be in trouble using non ulsd!

From what I understand, the LSD will clog the particulate filters exponenetially faster than ULSD, causing overheating of the exaust system, and evetually tear up the motor though higher EGT's and backpressure.

I do not know how to run LSD in one of these motors, tho.

From what I've been told you are 100% correct.

Dodge's literature on my C&C say that the 6.7 is made to run both fuels - but LSD will clog the DPF faster - but the trucks equipped to burn out the DPF when this happens. If you are not able to get ULSD and have to run LSD I'm sure your warranty will not be voided. I've run 2 tanks of LSD through my truck with no ill effects, yet (5600 miles). Remember also that the C&C has less emissions than the P/U - one less cat in the exhaust. It seems to me that since the 6.7 has come out there have been a lot of "the sky is falling" posted about it, and I think they are just people's fears of the unknown coming out, relax - all will be well!

This info is important , the 07 engine will CJ-4 oil in the crankcase , which has lower TBN than the older CI-4 oil , that oil was develope to be used with ULSD and not LSD, if you have no choice but to run LSD , adjust your oil changes to shorter intervals, otherwise you will have more wear in the engine. of course the other drawbacks to using the LSD is your mileage will drop due to going into active regeneration more often because of the soot level increase from the LSD. and the DPF will fill with ash much sooner.

If you can haul it, about 20% biodiesel would greatly reduce the amount of particulate that LSD will put out. I've run it at 100% in my '98.

Ok, here is what I know which is not a lot but, I did test this.

I purposely ran a full tank, well I put in 30.5 gallons of LSD in a 6.7L truck to measure the difference in egt, performance, cat temp and 02 levels.

It does make a difference to an extent but, the only thing we were really able to measure was the 02 levels were different which was expected. Towing a light load we saw no measureable difference in performance or egt, or fuel mileage and after 1 tank the DPF pressure readings were the same as before with ULSD.

Now, I do not condone this or recommend this but, I think if you get in a tight spot and have to stick LSD in the tank you will be ok.

Qzilla , were you measuring the DOC inlet temps and DPF outlet temps, and if you were , what were they while driving.
