New or keep it
New or keep it
You can see my sig. I have started to have a couple of problems with er. I had to put on a new injector pump and lp and just the other day the trans went. I have to get the thing repaired but what is the deal with the new ones? I was thinkin if I got a new truck it would be more reliable. I do quite a bit of towing and am away from my home base quite a bit. Are the new ones one headach after another or is what I read the exception to the rule and most are good runners?
thanks

Like anything else in this world, everything is a chance.
If you can swing it COMFORTABLY, then drive a hard bargan for a new 2009.
Keep the old one if you can, just for emergencies (like I am doing).
I guess the other question is with the greater power and better durability of the gas engines, you may want to look at one of those as well ... especially with the new 50% increase in the gas/diesel tax that will be coming soon (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009...-construction/)

Yeah I here ya. I'm open to just about anything tryin to keep my mind open. I know the gassers are a lot tougher on fuel but I am hearing about a lot of problems with the new trucks. I bought my truck new and it's been great but that's the way it was 17 years ago. The problem isn't keepin the old truck the problem is being 500 miles out and breakin down. I know this may be blasphemy but I am gonna look at a GMC. I need reliability. I had it, and may still, in the ole Dodge but not sure of the new ones.
I really haven't heard to much good about them.

Dont listen to the haters, the new dodge's are reliable. Look at my sig and thats what im running with 22,000miles and the only problem was the turbo( and it was still drivable). Get the dodge you will love it

Yeah your right good place to blow off steam. Haven't bought a truck in 17 years so I figure things have changed a bit. I haven't been on this side of the list at all. My area has always been the first gen forum. Just wanted to know what you guys thing of the new ones. Don't need a hotrod I need a puller.
thanks for your input

I put over a 100,000 miles on a '93 CTD at work. I bought a '94 CTD when they first came out. Added 4" turbo back exhaust, BD brake w/heavy springs, and AfE intake. Kept it till 2008.
I love my new truck and wouldn't go back. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on new diesels without the EB.

Ok now I'm on the same page. Yep lookin is the word. I really don't know what I'm doin right now. I am hopein the clutch is the problem. Hopein is the operative word. I will probably put new bearings and sync's in just as a matter of course even if it's the clutch. I hope I'll know tomorrow.
My buddy called this afternoon. He has the Duramax with the Allison. Of course he has nothing to compair it to but we thing the EB will probably do a better job of holding on the hill but he says the Allison does pretty well. Apparently the rpm on the Duramax is much higher than the Cummins which means each gear can run a bit higher in the downshift mode. I just wish Dodge made my ole truck today.

I'm just not seeing the complaints with the 08's like there are with 07.5's. I would think an 09 will have even fewer bugs. The power and 6-speed auto are great. Like I said, I wouldn't go back to a 5.9
