new flash??

I found out Saturday that there is another reflash available for the trucks as of a week or so ago (Oct 14ish). I will get the truck back tomorrow. This newest reflash is suppose to have the regen cycle happen even sooner than the last reflash; thus hopefully sidestepping the turbo meltdowns and other problems of too much backpressure caused by the DPF.

I took it in with no driving issues to speak of at 4500 miles. I will post the results the reflash when I get the truck back.
quoated that from anothe board. anyone know anything about a newer flash then the AU version?

I'll let you know if I find out anything when I pick my truck up tonight. I took it in yesterday for some aftermarket work negotiated when I purchased it, and they called me to tell me they had to keep it overnight for a new flash. They said it wasn't a "recall", but I figure it must be important since my truck did not go in for anything engine related. I asked which flash, but of course, the service advisor didn't know.

Cool we'll appreciate the info....

on a side note, do you have any pics of your truck with the leveling kit on it? Your truck is very similar to mine so ild like to see pics of it if possible.

I had my truck re-flashed on October 17th and AU was the latest available at that time.

I just talked to the dealer and he said my truck was ready and the flash was done. I asked him what the flash level was and he couldn't tell me specifically, just that it was the "latest and greatest" and that it just came out in October. It specifically targets the emissions system (I read DPF). It's supposed to reprogram the regen process in an effort to eliminate the errors some were getting.

He said the largest group of people having issues were contractor types towing generators and such that were doing a lot of stop and go driving combined with extensive idling times. He said if my driving was mostly highway (which it is), I might never have had a problem without the new flash.

I'm new to some of the lingo here, but the tech wanted to be sure I understood that it was not a recall, rather he referred to it as a "Rapid Response" issue. Is that the same thing as a TSB?

Why do I have a feeling my fuel mileage is going to drop with this flash???

I'll post the code or any other info I can find when I pick it up tonight. For all I know I'm just getting caught up with you guys.

If the technician follows the TSB instructions there will be a sticker applied in the engine compartment, near the VECI label, with the flash version specified.

Follow up to the flash

Well, got the truck back and there was nothing on the paperwork about the flash or "rapid response" being performed.

However, there was a new sticker for the update on the core support that simply states, "Reprogrammed ECM".

Is there somewhere else the version would be located or does the sticker cover everything from a tech standpoint? I imagine the update was logged with my VIN number as being completed in the system.

So the flash version mystery continues...

But it was weird, when I first started driving the truck it seemed very doggy especially from a standing start. But then after a couple miles it felt like it got better and back to the point of what it was. Maybe it's in my head but I don't think so. I was thinking great, they get you to test it and buy it when it hauls the mail and then they have you bring it in so they can detune it. But I don't think that's really the case after I drove it for awhile.

The AU flash definitely detuned the engine. Meaning the timing is retarded from what it was orginally.

Why did they retard the timing? I know why you do it in a gasser, but I don't know what the effects of advance are in a diesel.

How do you know it was detuned? Is this from the seat of your pants test or do you have some other info that indicates this was done?

I had the AU flash done recently but haven't been able to drive it hard enough yet to see if I feel a difference.

New Flash

Just went into the dealer today to get my idle up engaged, I got a new flash also. I have an 08, which I bought two weeks ago. So there definitely is a new flash. The service manager told me that the new flash was to give the regen some more parameters in which to activate. I might be mistaken but I glanced at the computer and if I remeber correctly the last two letters of the updated were AB. I might be mistaken. Truck ran great before, runs great now. No complaints, 800 miles getting 14.2 mpg on the computer havent hand calculated my mileage yet.

Asked the tech from one dealership and the service manager from another. I felt it immediatley which is what prompted my questioning. What really would've been good is to dyno before AU and then after.

I did not notice any difference in power going from AT -> AU, but I don't push the trucks limits either so...
