New to the Cummins world

Hello all. Am looking at getting a new 3500 QC DRW 4x4. Have a few questions. What are the axles front and rear? Exhaust brake come on the auto and manual trannies? And any basic info on the new 6.7 pros and cons. Thanks all!!

6.7s have been Ok overall. Seems poor fuel mileage, re-flashes, DPF issues tend to be the common themes. The axles should be AAM 9.25 inch in the front, AAM 11.5 inch in the rear (I am pretty sure they are the same as my 06, someone should chime in), and the exhaust brake should be on the manual or auto. The biggest difference over older model years, like the 06, is the new exhaust brakes actually are much stronger. And the manual 6th gear is a little more "highway" friendly compared to my 06.

How do the AAM 9.25 & 11.5 compare to the Dana 60 and 80? Is there a switch for the engine brake? Is the front axle available with LS or is that completely aftermarket? What size tires can I squeeze in without a lift and no rubbing?

The dana axles may have been better but they stopped putting them on when the 3rd gen came out (2003), so unless you want an old body (2002 or older) you'll be getting the AAM's.

There is a switch for the exhaust brake under the radio on the dash. It's a stupid symbol that you wouldn't guess was for the exhaust brake. When did we start demanding that people who can't read can still drive? I digress.

I think the axles are LS. If you want a locker, you'll have to go aftermarket. I suppose I am not sure if the front is LS. I know the rear is, but just assumed the front was too.

On the stock rims, you can pretty much go to a 285/70/17 with no rub issues. 315/70/17 will rub if you go completely lock to lock, but some people can deal with that (I can't). Do a search on the tire thing, it's been beaten to death on the forums.

thanks for the info. it's all greatly appreciated. also, do many run the fs-2500 bypass filter on the 6.7? or is it even worth running.

You can buy the Amsoil by pass set up for less money and it filters the oil a bit better then the fs2500.
