Just tested the Hypertech 6.7 Programmer!

You can check out the full write up on our website, but the short of it is that it works pretty well. Great power increases, low EGTs and increased mileage for less than $400.
For those who can't wait or won't need the full Smarty functionality, this might be a good option!

I can't believe how low the 6.7Ls seem to dyno in stock form, what is the deal? In the new Diesel Power mag, the 5.9L out performs the 6.7L on the dyno.

I don't think anybody is running them in the correct gear when they are dynoing them. From what I have read, 4th gear is direct drive and it should be used when dynoing. Isn't that correct? I've seen lots of stock 6.7 dyno numbers that are much higher than what has been posted here lately by magazines and Hypertech...

I have Hypertech's dyno sheets here, and this truck made more in most areas than they claimed. In addition, most of the stock 6.7's have been hitting 290ish at the wheels. The run in 4th is really short. Dyno electronics account for gear ratio anyway, so longer runs with load seem to deliver the best numbers in our experience.

its also important to note that we are looking for the DIFFERENCE in two identical runs, not just the biggest possible number. Consistency is more important for these types of product reviews.

do you know what hypertech claims the hp gains to be on a 6.7?
i know they claim 174 hp on the 5.9's with their tuner, and was wondering if their claims are realistic.

They claim 85hp and 181TQ for the 6-speed manual truck (what we tested also)

The autos claim 129/223. Pretty close to on the money (I assume the S&B helped a little also)

thanx Erik. i have thought about trying the one for the 5.9 (30 day money back guarantee)- they claim 174 hp and +2 mpg and you can safely tow on any level, but i tried a Hypertech on my 2nd gen and it was a dawg.

You mention increased mileage. Did you perform a long-term test to determine real-world mileage gains?

If you do most of your driving at or below 1750 rpm, were mpg is the best, charts indicate the programmer does nothing. Is this true?

Does it keep key counts so the dealer doesn't know when you take it off?

Its only been on the truck about 2 weeks, but he does hand calculate and drives a consistent route. He his hoping to head back to LA for a trip (he previously got 14 there and back unloaded) so he can see what its doing there.

Dont know for sure on the key counts, but we are doing another one this morning, so I will check it with the scanner.

What happened to the key counts and the mpg. My dyno results. We tried all the gears with the asin at 1700rpm in drive couldn't keep it from shifting. 1700rpm in tow haul couldn't keep it from shifting. 1700rpm overdrive locked out 282hp 540tq. 2000rpm in drive and tow haul still shifted. 2200rpm in tow haul didn't shift got 281hp and 560tq.
