How many problems on 6.7 cab and chassis
How many problems on 6.7 cab and chassis
After watching the board for the past several weeks, it seems that most of the problems are on the pickup models with the 350 hp engine. I haven't noticed many cab and chassis trucks with problems, especially emission problems. This is to cab and chassis owners, how many problems, and what kind of problems. The engine and emissions are different from what I've read and I really don't know exactly what the difference is.
I'll start it off with my truck, I've had one problem, and it went away. The truck wouldn't start, no codes, no cel, nothing. Just wouldn't start. Dealer and Star couldn't figure it out, then after about 4 hours it just started and has run perfectly every since. This occurred at 50,400 miles. Anyone else? Anyone had the DPF full or almost full on their overhead? I've never had anything. How about it cab and chassis owner, what problems have you had or is it mostly the pickup models and again, what is the difference other than hp.

We'll, my dad doesnt have a chassis cab. Hes got a quad-cab 8ft bed dually. 6spd 2wd.
DPF? Are you refering to that catalitic or crankcase filter system? If so, we have had that problem. My dad got the message one morning on his way to work that it was 80% full. He took my 1st gen and left me with the burden of getting it fixed by taking it to the dealer first thingl.

I read through the owners manual and it said something along the lines of "the filter becoems clogged after long periods of slow speeds and constant idling."

The day before, the truck was in the field loading hay ALL DAY.

The owners manual remedy for it was to drive around at highway speeds for aprox 45min to clean it out. So I did and it cleared itself out. Only sidefect was that the trucks mileage went from 18-20 all the way down to 10-12 for several days , maybe even as long as 2 weeks.
(not sure of the exact amount cause i left home for galveston) That so far has been our only REAL problem with the truck. Its done everything else we've asked it to do. But this comes as a real negative point on these new engines. Whats the point of getting this new engine when you cant run it in the fields all day without risking getting this kind of problem?
Oh, and one other little problem.
In the mornings, around 5AM when my dad goes to work, when he starts the truck, itll KNOCK quite loudly for several minutes but once he starts driving and gets it up to temp it will not do it anymore the rest of that day. Once he gets to work and parks it, itll sit all day long, plenty of time for it to cool down but when he gets in to start it to drive home around 4pm, it wont knock. Why does it only do this in the mornings? Is this something to worry about?
Again, I know its not a chassis cab but its the same engine. Any help would be great. Thanks
1. Check engine light came on around 730 miles and went off about 830.
2. Truck has died on 2 different occasions, had the exhaust brake on and the truck wasn't fully warmed up. Push in the clutch, slowing to stop and it would die.
: Solution: Turn off exhaust brake, and no die. Turn it back on after truck warmed up and ran like it should.
3. Transmission hang up in reverse.
: solution: Don't baby it into gear.
4. Engine clatter under slight acceleration, usually around 1500 to 1700 rpm.
: solution : Time, 2200 miles on it now and only hear the noise when engine is cold. Rings seating ?
5. Slight shimmy in front after hitting bumps ect.... but it is a truck.
Ride is almost like butter, have centramics on it. Sound like sloshing sand 1 to 22 mph.
6. Rock chips below the doors. Grrr. Mud flaps and nerf bars help some.
7. The more weight I pull behind this thing the better it likes it.

Well, I own a dodge c&c with a western hauler bed.
1. at around 400 miles check engine light came on
Solution: dealer says false alarm nothing wrong
2. 900 miles check engine light comes on and it tried to regenerate for 3 days straight till monday morning came.
Solution: Dealer reseted regeneration computer and replaced emission piping and a trap door that was not shutting all the way.
3.At around 4000 miles the check engine light came on again.
Solution: dealer sayed the turbo, actuator, and exhaust brake were bad. They overnighted all the parts and dodge had some of the guys from the Indiana turbo company at the Dodge Proving grounds in Arizona. They came over and helped install it. Dodge must have some problems with the turbo to have guys from Indiana in Arizona testing them. The bill for this last problem cost dodge 5500 dollars.
Luckily, knock on wood, this truck has been great since. It is doing well in the heat and in the mountains. By the way, dodge and my dealership were great in getting all the problems solved. I would not hesitate buying this truck again because the positives outweigh the negatives.
