Help a newbie pick a truck.

Hi All,
My name is Andy. I'm new here and in the market for a new truck. My 96 standard cab F350 7.3 PSD is just too small for the wife and I.
I know I want a Dodge diesel, quad cab long box, 4x4. We have a small farm and I tow my tractor, hay, equipment and horses from time to time. I also drive the freeway alot. I don't need to go any faster than 75mph.
My Ford had the 4.11 rear end. Should I go with the same on the dodge?
I'm leaning towards the 6spd manual, but haven't driven the auto yet. Any thoughts would great?
Thanks for your time.

I have a new07 6.7 w/6spd auto, Only had this a couple of days ,trading in a 06 5.9 w/4sp auto for the 07.. Yesterday I hooked up my trailer, 3100 lbs empty, and pulled it down the highway and off in Bigelow Hollow which is a very steep 20 something percent grade,, The 6spd auto is klck a--s, along with exhaust brake. This Saturday I will load the tractor, 8200 lbs, and pull the same test loop and see how it handles it,, I have the 4:10 rears by the way.

Larry,
What is your rpm @ 70mph?

Does any body know at what RPM the motor is most efficient? (sp) I know my 7.3 PSD did best when it was around 2000 on the tach.

I can't find a left over 6spd 5.9. I'm looking for a used one to but have had no luck. I drove both the manual and auto 6.7. They are nice I'm just a little nervous about them being so new. I did notice the man ran @ 2000-2200 at 65-70mph. The auto ran at 1600-1700 at the same speed. Would the auto get better mileage then?

Hey rusty, I like your sig. IAFF local 43 brother.

alright!! its good to have some more union brotheren on the board. theres actually quite a few of us milling around here and there. and yes i believe with the auto turning less rpms, the fuel milage would be increased. i almost wish i had waited and bought one of the new 6.7s though. ive had mine for a little over 12 months and 22k miles so maybe its time to trade it in

I have a buddy who just got an identical truck to yours and it is a sweet truck. The auto is very nice but I want to drive the manual. Good luck with it and I know my buddy loves it.
