Hard starting
Hard starting
This just started today. The truck, 2007.5 6.7L, full deletes and H&S, 88K miles. It started fine this morning then on the way to work I filled up 23 gallons. Ran fine 25 miles to work. Went out 3 hours later and it didn't want to start. I'm in Florida and temps are fine so not a cold weather issue. After 3-4 tries it fired and blew a bunch of blue smoke. Seems to run fine once started and no codes. Shut it off and it is still hard to start taking 2-3 cranks. Also seems to idle at 1200 rpm. I can't remember the previous idle speed but 1200 seems high.
I plan on stopping at the dealer on the way home to get a new fuel filter and some cleaner. I'm hoping I just got a crap tank of diesel from the BP station.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Rob

Anyway, I replaced the fuel filter on Friday and the old filter was black. Sure sign of bad fuel. The truck still is hard to start and runs like crap at low rpm until it is warmed up. Blows blue smoke at start.
I suspect that one or more of the injectors is clogged and it opens after the fuel pressure rises. My fuel pressure is good at 4.8 ksi at idle and smoothly ramps up to well over 12 ksi as I increase the rpms. I was wrong about the idle. It is at 700 rpms and steady.
I added a half can of diesel fuel cleaner (enough for 50 gallons) to the nearly full tank (36 ish gallons). I plan on running the truck the rest of the week to get rid of the bad fuel and then run a tank with cleaner through it to see if I can clean it out. I will also put in a new filter after this tank.
Any suggestions on injectors if I need new ones?
Thanks Rob

Hopefully still just bad fuel and not injector probs. You might want to fill out your signature with what year make and model and any mods so everyone can see what you have and advise accordingly. Best to you.
All is well
I ran through that tank of diesel as fast as I could by driving the truck all week. It ran like crap all week and was hard to start. I ran it down until the onboard computer said I only had 50 miles to go. Refilled at a station that gets alot of traffic and gave it another dose of fuel cleaner and it started right up. Runs good again. I plan on changing the filter again this weekend just to make sure I got any crap out of it.
