Hard start after running for a while
Hard start after running for a while
I have a 2005 - 5.9 and the truck has been running fine with no issues. I had to do a run from Minneapolis to Omaha to look at a site to build and no issues going over. The truck sat about an hour and notice (afterwards) that it had a slight hard start, but didn't think much of it and started heading back., Another 3 hours into the return trip, I stopped off for fuel and it would not start. Truck turned over fine but just wouldn't fire. I had pressure to the IP and the return fuel line has a sight glass in it and fuel is passing through the return.
Tried several times with no luck. Tried the old 2nd gen (on off) to check for codes and none came up, just the "done" message and no idiot lights. After an hour or so, gave up and rented a hotel room. It was in the mid 80's in Iowa and after another 1-1/2 hours I went out to try and start the truck just before dark. The first attempt was the same. The second attempt it did fire, but a very hard start guessing between 5-10 seconds on the starter motor.
Drove it back to the hotel and checked out (only charged $30) and headed back home. No issues with the truck running the whole trip and was too afraid to shut it down. When I just got home, I brought my stuff in and sure enough, it wouldn't start again. I had a similar issue with my 2000, and once it cooled down it would start just fine. The end result was a replaced crankshaft position sensor. Would you all think this could be the same issue again on this truck.
Any other troubleshooting ideas would be wonderful. I don't know if they'll be able to get me into the garage or not on such short notice, so thinking ahead.
Thanks for your help
Pat

no rail psi = CP3 OR lift pump. injectors are after the rail and if you don't have any pressure, then look at what feeds the rail first. the CP3 will pull fuel from the tank.
