I'm wondering if anyone out there has any more info on this subject.
Here is what i'm told i need to do but i'm not sure how.
I have a 16K GVWR trailer i want to pull with my 08 3500 dually with a 12,200 GVWR. If you take both numbers together you get 28,200. I'm told (no where on the vehicle) that my truck has a GCWR of 24,000 and i'm also told it can be changed to a higher number but i need some documentation from the manufacturer stating that it can go higher. Now, i have towed way over my Gross combined and in now way strained my truck or the suspension. But legally, can this be altered? And, can i be fined for pulling a 16k trailer making my gross combined 2200 more than my vehicle is registered for?

any help is appreciated,

Steve

i dont think you can be fined for going over your trucks limit but you have to watch out not to go over DOT because you will get a ticket if you dont have a CDL driving over DOTs minimum weight

If you get stopped by DOT Enforcement, your'e in a heap of trouble. and depending what state youre in ,and if you are hauling intrastate or interstate the are really cracking down. I recently went through it so I would advise to check with your states or dot to find out what you need for what you do. its confusing as heck, but it'll save your butt, and your'e wallet at some point.

The problem is if you talk to 3 people from DOT you get 3 different answers.
