Fuel Additives???
I have heard that the new 6.7L system or injectors have been designed to not need additives. That is why I figured the poster without the signature had a 5.9L. Kind of like taking the lead out of the fuel and manufacturers switched to hardened valve seats due losing the lead. Amazing huh?
However, I think the manual says to not use additives due to the emisions equipment. I don't think additives could hurt things other than the emissions equipment. For those who's emmision equipment has fallen off then this point would be moot.
If one thinks they need it and feel better for it and don't have a 6.7L with the emissions then go for it. Might as well change your oil every 3K miles as well...

Our Son-in-Law has an F-250, 2004 power stroke. He was at the Ford dealer ship picking up some body parts since he used his truck for construction and now has repainted, repaired to use for home use. He said there was 2 Ford factory tech's there with 4 power stroke engines in a demo trailer and they were promoting the use of fuel addatives. What they showed him was impressive and he called me to see if fuel addatives were needed. We explaind we used the Diesel Kleen and had good results. He bought the Ford brand and gave it a hot shot dose and the second day his sputter and hard starting issues cleared up. He's a beliver.
From the old school, trans fluid keeps gel down in cold weather, makes diesel burn hot and we have seen the DDE engines, Detroit that is, have a blue tip flame out the top stacks before. Sure fire way to burn a piston. Although it will increase the HP and performance short term.
Trans fluid dosen't have lubericant properities for fuel. The fuel will break it down and it will burn under combustion of the cylinder. Think about it, a 2 stroke engine burns a lubericant oil. Four stroke burns fuel, diesel or gas engine. Fuel addativies are designed to be asorbed into the fuel for use. Like I said earlier, we saw big rig owners use it in the 70's to increase power and keep fuel from gelling. In fact, Consolidated Freight, when they were around would fire a driver if he was caught with a can of trans fluid in the cab. We have been in the automotive industry and trucking industry for 35 years and have seen a few engines in the rebuild shop.

Don't know about the newer pumps but I've always been told that if I wanna get a new inj. pump to run trans fluid in my fuel. The detergents will kill the lubrication factor and frag the injector pump!!!

I run a pint of outboard motor oil in each tank with my 5.9. Runs much smoother with the oil. I also add Howes Meaner Diesel Kleaner in every 2-3 tanks or anytime I'm towing. That stuff seems to really smooth out the engine and increase the throttle response!!

i'm a certified cummins and powerstroke tech. Trans fluid is a no no in a cummins, but believe it or not I know a lot of guys running it in powerstrokes with no adverse affects. One guy has been running it in a 01 7.3 PS for over four years, without any problems other than short fuel filter intervals. The only problem I see is when a state trooper dips your tank and the stick comes out red. Try telling him its trans fluid and not off road diesel
Running an additive in a 6.7 is not wise. GMScott I think it was used diesel power service and keep having DPF issues, egr clogging problems. Quit using the additive and the problems went away. The only additive I would use is an anti gelling additive if I was in very cold weather.
