Fuel Additives???
Quick question about Fuel Additives in the new 6.7. I've always used lucas fuel additives in all my other dodge trucks ie..5.9L and was wondering if doing so in the new engines could cause any problems with the smog control devices or filters.
Thanks |
I would only run a fuel additive that says its compatible with diesel particulate filters.

Thanks for your help. I'm not real sure if Lucas has that product yet

Depending where you are, I've had REALLY good luck with Diesel Services Group fuel additive.

I use Miligan's canola oil additive in both the 98.5 and 07.5 dodges and 3 farm case tractors. I went through 3 inj pumps on the 98.5, then started using Miligans no more problems. Been 4 yrs since last inj pump. Could it just happened that way or it could be the Miligan's I don't know. Being a lic hd mechanic, we used to sell both Miligan's and Lucas. We tested both in -30 c weather. 1L each left outside for 10 hrs. Brought inside and tried to pour into diesel fuel miligan's poured and instantly mixed into the fuel with stirring. Lucas came out in globs and we had to stir like crazy to mix. You could still see the lucas from the diesel. The miligan's you could not tell. I'd use miligan's. Just my 2 cents.

My owner's manual says not to use additives, and thats good enough for me. My 5.9 didn't need any either.

THe new diesel fuel does not have the lubercation factors that the older fuel had. Cummins representatives have told me to make sure I add an addative for lubercation and injector cleaner. I use Diesel Kleen and can tell a difference. Working in the trucking industry and dealing with many Cummins folks weekly, I listen to the factory guys.

What kind of truck do you have? 6.7L? I'm sure they (the experts) say that about the 5.9L and others...

It's interesting that the manual for my '07.5 6.7 CTD specifically states that fuel additives aren't recommended. I do agree with what you guys are saying but still wonder why D/C made that statement.
That being said, I do use Diesel Kleen but ONLY on occasion. I may start using it more regularly now upon reading your suggestions. Still, WHY does D/C recommend against additives in the book? Any ideas? |
