Factory Exhaust Brake Question

I have been searching and searching to no avail. I'm wondering if it's possible to manually control turning the factory exhaust brake on and off with a 6.7L? Yes, it has the button but sometimes when I'm sitting at idle, I would like it to be running, even above the computer programmed outside temp. In addition, is it possible to control the aggressiveness of the brake? I CANT STAND when I'm slowing down, the brake comes on strong, then lightens up!!

I know what you mean. I'm very happy with it at its most aggressive mode, but it does seem to lighten up. I'm not sure if it works at idle or not. I had a BD in my old truck, and it was not only aggressive, but totally predictable. It definitely worked at idle and any speed or RPM in between. I hope the EB we have now is programmable.

There might be something in the StarScan tool that can do this but nothing i have read about in the aftermarket has the ability to change any of the settings with regards to the EB. I, for one, would like to be able to set so the EB is on at startup, eliminating the need for me to push the button every startup.

Good point. Same here. I really don't like having to push the button when starting up. Not because I'm lazy but just because I sometimes forget. Either way, these are all minor issues for me. I love the truck. Best truck I ever owned. I need to find someone on the inside with a tool that can tell me if the EB settings can be changed! When I call the dealer, they sit on the phone with that "sound" of a deer in headlights!! lol

Tow Haul makes it much more aggressive. If I sit and idle too long I can hear the EB kick on......

Other than the mileage I agree about what great trucks these now are. I wouldn't even mind all the emissions stuff if it wasn't causing problems.....

i don't think it's the eb kicking in at idle for long periods. the eb will kick on in cold weather below a certain temp (forget what exactly it is). curious as to why you want it running at idle. what am i missing? use the high idle for idle times.

Having the sliding vane closed heats the truck up faster. That's why it comes on when the ambient temp is below 60 (or is it 50?) degrees. It's just to help the truck warm up a little faster in cooler weather.

The Variable Geometry Turbo is restricting the exhaust flow to help Exhaust Gas Recirculation and increase exhaust temperatures.
The ECM is performing a hydrocarbon desorption process to 'clean' the catalytic converter and Diesel Particulate Filter of excessive unburnt fuel (hydrocarbons). If the engine has been continuously idling / low engine load conditions (such as being stuck in a traffic jam) for more than 2 hours, this process will occur. It can take up to an hour of engine operation for this process to complete.
* NOTE - An exhaust 'regeneration' process (which only occurs at highway speeds) to 'clean' the Diesel Particulate Filter (soot filter) WILL NOT OCCUR until after this desorption process is complete.

This was a response from the tech help line at Chrysler.

I must be hearing something else then because I'm talking about idling for 5 minutes or so, not two hours...
