Exhaust Brake

Does anyone know if it is possible to cause the 07.5 6.7 Cummins to have the exhaust brake stay on longer and also work in 2nd gear? Mine will shut off at about 1200rpm in 3rd gear.

Do you have an auto or manual transmission?

I have been able to keep my exhaust brake working as long as I am in tow/haul mode and manually shift the toggle to second gear. But when towing my 5er the truck will rely on the ECM and I never shift below 4th gear with the toggle switch to keep the exhaust brake working. I will also use the service brakes to slow the weight down; I want the trailer to do braking also.

Yes I have the Aisan 6 speed. If I toggle my truck into second gear the exhaust brake will work only when the rpm's are higher than in any other gear.. But it will not stay on to 1200 rpm like all higher gears, it just stays on briefly.

I have the 6 speed auto 68 RFE and find the same result when j-braking. I have been using the downshift paddles with the j-brake since I bought the truck---when needed. Have no problems to date and have had no one I've asked object to that use of the transmission and j- brake. Someone explained why the j-brake kicks out but I forget the reasons given.

I also noticed the same problem with my j-brake. I also noticed the downshift from 3rd to 2nd even without the j-brake gets a little choppy. It sounds like the engine or tranny has a brief miss or two in the shift...I'm going to call someone today to find out .
