Does this cost seem out of line?
Talked to service dept over phone today about my 08 truck. Basically told the guy I just got 12.9 mpg unloaded, not towing, driving under 65 mph on a recent 150 mile road trip (1 stop). This seems way, way out of line at least compared to my former SuperDuty mileage. This truck has less than 9k miles on it. His comment...bring in it, we will hook it up and check it out on the computer but there will be a charge of about $150. Does this cost seem out of line?
You might want to remind him that there is a 3 year/36 month ***bumper to bumper*** warranty and you won't be paying for anything other than routine maintenance.
Did you calculate the MPG using overhead or hand calc? The overhead can be wildly inaccurate.
Even if hand calculated, you should probably wait until you have some extended mpg data to eliminate the chance that you had variability in getting the tank filled with the same amount of fuel each time. I've kept data from day one. After 14,300 miles, my average MPG is 15.7 with a range of 13.4 to 18.6.

Unfortunately, this was hand calculated. The overhead on mine generally reads about 1/2 mpg better than it actually is. I have to admit, I was shocked. The SuperDuty new got 16.5 under same conditions. If I had been driving it hammer down, would have expected this bad mpg but not on cruise and driving like a little ole lady.
Did you add the wheels recently? Did you correct the speedometer for the wheel size change?
If not, you might have a bad O2 sensor that is keeping the truck in regen mode. Take it in and have'em hook it up (for free).

Switched out the wheels and tires right after I bought the truck and then corrected the speedometer to match. Fuel economy has never changed at all in the truck. It has been horrible since day one. The overhead has never been correct but honestly is not off by much. I keep a record of mileage and fuel. Best it has ever gotten is 13.2 and that was the first tank of fuel. It has been downhill since then.

So sorry.

Interesting...I traded a 2006 6.0 4wd crewcab for this truck. My mileage on the Ford, right off the lot and up until I traded it was right around 14.2 daily driving and around 16.5 on highway pushing the crap out of it. I did not get rid of the Ford because of fuel economy or performance...both were very good. It was due to problems inside the cab such as 3 of 4 doors rattling and seat belt problems. When they told me I would have to live with the door noise when I was able to show them exactly what it was (28k miles), I told them I would live with it right up till the time a new truck arrived that would not be a Ford. I hear the 6.4 mileage is pretty bad. The 6.0 mileage was worse than the 7.3 mileage but no where near as bad as I am getting with this Dodge.
