I still havent heard anything else and I dont even KNOW that the block is cracked, it could be a freeze plug or a HG, but either one of those not caught in time could destroy a motor.

Ill try and get in touch with him today and report back to you fellas (and ladies).

Most dealers don't do rebuilds. If they do its there prob if it brakes not cummins so they will put a new one in. It may have done like my 96 and the t-stat stuck closed and blew the HG to the out side and I lost almost all the water while I was filling up one night. Kinda looked like a cracked block/head. Put a new HG in and I was good to go. Plus most dealers try to fix every thing with a new flash, or some thing like that do you really want them in your 6.7. Most are "parts changers" not mechanics. There are good dealers out there but most are not all that great.

doesn't work that way, block goes back on the same pallet the new one came on. my 5.9 short block was replaced at 19,000 miles.

have seen a 6.7 block stripped down, that was due to damage from a "Banks system" as the dealer called it.

Not necessarily the case. That is only true if it is a REMAN block or if Chrysler calls it back. If Chrysler doesn't call it back they can tell the dealership they can do as they please with the block.

I doubt that most dealers would know the diff. Every one of them I have talked to say they had a "chip" in it even though they don't make one. They don't know the diff in a module, chip, program er and so on. I have never seen any thing messed up because of Banks parts. There web site only shows that they make an inter-cooler and exhaust for the 6.7. Sounds like just another person trying to down Banks.

I would think that if a 6.7 block fails they are going to want it back.

I told them several times Banks doesn't make anything for the 6.7. service manager said well then they probably took it off an older truck

Agree, I made that statement earlier in the post. I actually work for a dealer in parts, so just giving insight to how the process works But yes, no doubt they will want it back.

depends how much the labor would cost chrysler to transfer all the old parts over to a new block versus just swapping a new engine into it. Maybe his old block just had a casting flaw in it.

Perhaps nothing more than a casting porosity issue. frequently Cummins will send a complete assy to keep from paying all the assembly and individual parts. And the customer is happy.

Cummins dose not warranty the block, Dodge does. Once Dodge buys it, they own it and are the warranty center. Dodge buys them with no warranty from Cummins.

I had a 5.9 block replaced with a casting flaw (where the cam sits) it was replaced with a short block. ended up being about a $10,000 repair. new engine ran great. actually the old one ran great too, it just sprayed oil all over the place

proud to be on my 4th ISB in one incarnation or another. I hope to god this one leaks NOTHING.
