The local dealer has all but given up in trying to prevent my CEL from going on and staying on. I must say I agree with him. The light has been on constantly for a few weeks now and he claims that resetting it will not prevent it from coming back on. This is due to problems with the turbo and perhaps some other parts of the system that Dodge/Cummins is now "working on feverishly" to cure. So, there's no rhyme or reason in clearing the codes and resetting the light, as it's a lost cause.

So, my question is: How many of you are just ignoring the CEL and waiting for D/C t come up with a fix?

BTW, the truck still performs well and i DO love it, but I expect a new vehicle costing this much $$ to have no issues with check engine lights coming on and staying on. It just annoys me to see that light and hear the chime every time I start up...

I hear ya! I have the same problem with the CEL and codes.

I to LOVE my truck but it is a pain....

 

The CELs are a bit unnerving. Last summer (with the 07.5) towing our 5th wheel, miles from any dealer, we had intermittent CELs that started in Custer National Park and were on almost continuously through Yellowstone and back to the west coast. When I got it to the dealer it had gone off and they couldn’t find a code. I was told I should have brought it in while the light was on! After the trip to the dealer the CEL came back on and off several times and has now been gone for almost 3,000 miles. A subsequent trip to the dealer and they were able to find a couple of codes.

Although it could be worse, last fall a friend of mine was having issues with his new Mercedes (560 or ? which cost over 100k). It would suddenly lose all electrical power, nothing would work. The dealer would load it up and take it back to their shop, fixed it several times. The last I heard he was trying to get them to buy it back.

 

I think my CEL is burned out now!
After having the light on for months, I pulled the codes once again and had the same 6. Then, earlier this week, I get in the truck, fire it up and something was not right. No engine light! Still not on either. Must've burnt out. I changed nothing in my driving habits or anything else. Only thing that changed was that the temp was above freezing when this occurred. However, its down to -22C here again and still no engine light.
Something else too...I burned 30 gallons of fuel to get 489 miles, all highway, cruise set at 70 MPH, three stops included. Low fuel light came on about 30 miles from home and....it showed I still had 52 miles to empty when I got home.
Thats the best so far.

I've also been thinking that with my CEL on constantly,it will also burn out. That could be a blessing but that infernal chime would still sound to remind me. Oh well, someone always has it worse, like that owner of the new $100,000 Mercedes mentioned above

 

I suggest you continue going to your dealer for a CEL on. My understanding of the warranty is that if you CEL is on and ignored, then something goes to heck, Chrysler can say you contributed to the problem by NOT going to the service shop. They just might deny repairs under the warranty. It is a pain, for sure. I've been back 11 times still no fix. So, an atorney is now working on my "fix".
