Block Heater Cord Missing

My owner's manual said all 6.7 engines come with a block heater, but I can't find the cord which should be behind the right headlight. The manual also said a cord is available at your local dealer. Did I just miss the cord because I sure can't find anything in that area...or is the dealer going to squeeze me again?

Nope! It is an additional part that can be added at the time of the trucks original order for free, but they will charge you 30-40 bucks for one at the dealer! Not right in my opinion, but it is how they have done it since 05 I think. It should be the same as the old ones, and you can buy a cord at most truck shops for 10-15 bucks. Thats what my buddy did on his 05. His cord actually looks beefier than my factory one!

The block heater is installed from the factory - the cord however is an option... depending on where you buy it may come with a diagram of the routing for the cord, but from what I gather, there should be clips already in place on the truck/frame that it fits into that route it from block to bumper

Thanks. Even though I live in NC, I run fire/rescue calls and have to leave without warm-ups. It gets into the teens and 20's here, so a warm block will help. My ford 7.3 left me 1/2 mile down the road with a cold stack a couple of times when I forgot to plug it in at night.

Take the truck back to your dealership and tell them you want it for free. My dad did that and his salesman got it for him. They are deemed necessary in only a few states. Dodge makes that decision at the factory. I was screwed on mine. I bought in September and didn't look for it until November when it started getting cold. I went to the dealership and they charged $40 for the cord. My dad got his from the salesman and I put in on for him. It is very easy to do. This was the first diesel I had ever seen that the cord is an option. I don't think they should make the decision for you. I work in the oilfield and sometimes have to leave in a hurry or early in the morning so I plug it in once it starts dropping in the 30's.

I can't understand why any dealer would not order these trucks with out the block heater option. I live in north MS and even my local dealer orders them with the block heater option, cost them like 9 bucks this way, this is on trucks he orders for stock, and not ordered for someone.
JMHO, a dealer that does order trucks with out the block heater option is looking for the extra $$$ he makes off of saleing and installing the cord for the buyer.

I had this topic of conversation with the dealer owner a few years back. Trucks were always ordered the block heater cord option (10 bucks), but one year the powers that be incorporated the cord into some "winter package" that cost like $180. No sense in doing that on a truck that most likely will see desert life. Haven't seen what the "option" goes for in the last few years. Not much of a concern out here.

Mine is in the same place as Caper's. The dealership told me I would have to order the part, but I talked with one of the techs, and he showed me where it is. Open the hood, and it is in a little plastic clasp on the left side of the shroud, down low. Mine is a Big Horn Edition. I don't know if they come stock for that model or not.
