Allison or Mercedes AT?

What is the better transmission (for snowplowing)? An allison or a mercedes? Guy I know wants to buy a chevy because it has an allison, but how much better is it. A chevy is like 4,000 dollars more than a comparable dodge. That could just about buy a transmission itself. Please no brand-loyal or biased opinions, just looking for facts. Want to know which tranny is truly better. Thanks

Speaking from experience, the Allison I had in my 2002 Duramax was very good. Now the Mercedes....neither the 68rfe (for the pickups) nor the Aisin auto (cab & chassis) are Mercedes. The Aisin is from Japan and VERY TOUGH. The only Dodge tranny related to Mercedes is the G56 manual. Remember even a good tranny can be ruined if abused. Snowplowing IS hard on ANY pickup truck drivetrain.

For $4K less, the Dodge is superior, plus has more ground clearance.

Yeah, I must have been mistaken. I thought the new manual was made by getrag. Obviously I don't get out of my 1st gen much! So in a 3/4 ton truck, Alison or 48RE? What do the D-maxes and the 6.7s get for mileage anyway?

My 6.7 pickup is getting about 15 around town...(not babying it) and about 19 on the highway at approx. 68mph average... I have driven both the dodge 68rfe and the allison and i think that the dodge is a much faster and much more efficient trans and works very well with the exhaust brake....you will have to get used to the occasional clunkking....its normal i have a 8'6" stainless V plow on the pickup and a 9'6" stainless V on the C&C with the aisin in it and i am more than happy with both of them

When the 48RE came out, I had a salesman tell me that it was the new trans built by Mercedes. I went around with him a few times, but he still thought that he was the big man with all the info. He even called the sales manager out, yep, I was still wrong. I feel bad for all the people that fell for it.
