68RFE Troubles

Having some troublesome issues with my tranny. It was rebuilt about 14k miles ago and now recently when you start it up after sitting for longer periods of time (14 hrs or more) it will not hardly move unless you let it run for 45 sec or so.

Now I do realize I should always let my truck warm up, but I am confused why this just started. I mean if you fire it up, let the lights and dingers go off, pull it into D or R, hit the throttle to the floor it will not pull itself over a curb. It just barley moves.

Now the other issue is at low speeds.. say light acceleration from 20 to 40 at times if you dont stay into the throttle it will almost buck between gears. It is going back to the trans shop as it does still have a warranty.

I called goerends and they flat said sorry bout owning a 68rfe and there are too many issues to make one very reliable. Or at least too many to risk their awesome reputation.

Any thing to tell my local shop to look for? They do great work but its not like this one bay shop sees three of these a day or anything, maybe a year.

Thanks in advance

It does sound like the repair more then anything else needs to be addressed by the shop.

A statement like that from Goerends seems off for them. I do know that they are not doing anything with the 68 as I contacted them directly. Perhaps its too much for them or changes are occurring with their way of doing business. I recently read a thread on here from someone that had contacted them in person and was told they are getting away from repairing altogether. Perhaps, perhaps not...we know how rumors can go.

I know of several people with great success with the 'stock' 68RE...I am one of them. I rarely find a thread where someone has had a failure compared to the 48 and 47.

Tell us what the shop says about your problem...frustrating for sure.

Well the spin on filter inside had backed itself off and was allowing the fluid to drain back from the cooler over time.
