3500 Flash on 2500

Hi,

I've been reading this forum ever since we bought our truck back in June. Lots of good info here.

I took it in today to have have it flashed because of the ever present CEL. I ask what the error was and was told it was due to the turbo, nothing more specific than that. I serached the TSB on the receipt 18-009-07 and came across some info that indicates it's a flash for a 3500, not a 2500. I saw more about the particulate filter than the turbo.

I'm thinking I'm headed back to them to get a better description of they think they did. Does anybody know if it's common to cross flash so speak.

Sorry for the length of the post and again great forum.

Russell

Flash really isn't specific to model, more to the part number of the ecm.

welcome

the only difference in a newer 3500/2500 is the helper springs per most of the posts I have read.

the TSB paperwork could have said anything, and just meant a heavy duty truck. DC is not very particular on explaining to dealers what exactly is going on.

18-033-07 is the same flash. Has 3500 and 2500 listed . The 18-009-07 TSB is for chassis cab vehicles, thats why only 3500 is listed. Same flash though. Dealer probably has done a lot more of the 18-009-07 flashes.

A flash is an update to the software code (firmware) on the embedded chip in your truck's onboard computer. Similar to a BIOS flash for a home computer.

There is a difference between the Cab & Chassis flash and the pick up flash as they have VERY different emission systems - we have 2 of each!
