3.73 or 4.10 how do I know?

Just bought a 3500 dually. The sales person said it came with the 3.73 and it did have that..... In the paper work or even the window sticker there is nothing that says 3.73 or 4.10......

Can someone tell me how I can know for sure. I wanted the 3.73. Thanks

It was the case for the 06 models, at least, thet there is no marking anywhere on the truck for the axle ratio (used to be on an axle tag or on the options sticker).
Every 06 truck I looked at, 3.73 is std and not listed anywhere, even on the window sticker. 4.10 is optional and is noted on the window sticker.

If on the sticker it doesn't say anything about what gear ratio you got then you have a 3.73. If you had 4.10's it should show it on the sticker. Either way you can always put a mark on the bottom of you tire and a mark on the driveshaft and make one full rotation of the tire and have someone count how many times the mark on the driveshaft makes a rotation. If it goes about 3 3/4 its a 3.73, if it goes a little over 4 then it's a 4.10.

If driving on the highway is a pain because the rpms are screaming, u have 4.10's. U can always jack the rear end up and rotate wheel and check the pinion rotation for the ratio.

You can always have the service or parts department pull a build sheet on the truck. I love my 4.10 gears. Puts me right at 1800 rpms pulling at 62 mph. I prefer to be a little above peak torque that way if I hit a good size hill when the rpm's drop I will still be in that range.

Also look in the glove box at the options sticker-my axle ratio was printed on there.

Got that right... Passing a semi once in the 2500, I was at 75 and floored it... Then I realized it WAS floored. :P.

I've had my dually with 4.10s WELL over 75 mph. on several occasions......

2000 rpm = approx 62 mph with 4.10s and stock tires.

Ok ok maybe I stretched the no-response-pedal by a little (LOL TINY FONT), but I swear that thing wouldn't have done over 83MPH.

Do you have an auto or a six speed? IIRC a manual is not available with 4.10's just the auto. Might wanna just jack the rear end up and manually check. Roll the tires and count the number of times the driveshaft rotates.

DFO, that truck needs a gsk, lol. When I pass people I get up to 75 in a split second from 60, so I think I could reach pretty high even with the 4.10's, but I don't like revving it out that much.

lol that truck makes me appreciate the 3500 that much more :P

Except I drove it around for a while yesterday, it rides smoother and is so quiet compared to the straight pipe roar of the 3500 that it made me sad . I could barely hear the turbo wind up pulling out of my driveway :P.

And yeah a GSK would be a good upgrade to that truck, its gonna stay as close to stock as possible, yet it should still be able to go over 83 lol.
