3.42 axle ratio
I finally found a new truck with the G56 manual and drove it yesterday. It had 3.73 rear gears in it. The RPM it was turning at 60 MPH were exactly the same as my truck with the 48re and 4.10 gears. Since this was the first manual I have driven with the Cummins it was O.K. The only thing I really liked about it was the stopping with the exhaust brake. Shifting was very smooth. The only thing I didn't like is it was very slow to get going.... Couldn't hardly even feel the turbo spooling up before it was time to shift. Hmmm, wasn't really that impressed with it and to be truthful I like my old 48re slush box better.

Yes I did try the 68rfe and I liked it but I am unsure how it will do pulling heavy. I liked the manual but it was slow. It may be great pulling a load but I am sure they wouldn't like me hooking my trailer to it to see if I like it. I'm not forking out that kind of money on a whim. I'll just keep what i have for a while longer. I personally thought the manual would be better than it was. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what I want to do. Dump some coin on my truck and upgrade the tranny to the tune of about $5,000 dollars (that I will never get back) and add a pacbrake exhaust brake with lockup controller. ($1500) or get a new truck.
^^^ Tough question there on a new truck or not. Honestly, if your trailer is a tag, I don't see why the dealer would not let you try it out and see.
That's what these trucks are designed and marketed for (towing). Personally, and from everything I've heard/read about the new auto 6 is pretty much nothing but good things. Since the bugs are pretty much worked out and if MPG isn't a major factor (you don't like the manual) then there isn't a much more capable option that the 6.7 and auto 6 with the e-brake. I don't envy your decision, but mine was easy because this is my first Dodge and Diesel.

Why do anything.Just drive your present truck the way it is.There are folks out there pulling as much as you etc.and don't do a darn thing to these trucks but a hitch and brake controller .The guys I know with them (and DuraMaxes) don't do anything but lite maintance,no fuel additives and manage to put 150k mostly trouble free miles on them. Two of them there biggest complaint is trading them in and having to wait till 30k plus to get could fuel mileage again.
Yeap, that is what i have been doing, Nothing but reg. maintenance. I always wanted a manual but after that drive I don't think so. Keeping what I got. I am only putting around 10,000 miles on it a year. Just have to suck it up and drop the tranny and upgrade it. I can't stand taking off loaded the way it is.
