2008 Trucks
2008 Trucks
I came across a 2008 Truck with the 6.7 with auto tranny and low miles on it and a one owner truck, I was wondering if there are any issues with this year truck and engines? I am very interested in it, has a clean history report on it also. I have been looking at trucks and I do not really need a brand new truck and would be very happy with this one as I have had good luck with used vehicles also. I would like to hear from some of you that have this year truck and how you feel about them.
I have one and love it. It has 65,000 + miles with only 1 minor issue so far, a TIPM sensor went out after only having truck about 3 months. It was fixed under warranty and all is well to date. Truck is stock save for wheels and tires and whale tounge removed from intake tube. I am happy with it, so far its the best vehicle I've owned.
That is good to hear, I have been looking at new and used trucks, I do not mind buying used with a good clean history report, low miles and one owner, I figure I could save some money off a new one, I am weighing my options.
I bought mine used with 50k on it. Have 116k on it now. The biggest issue I had was with the egr...gets sooted up and runs terribly. I did not have any dpf nor turbo issues. I began reading this forum and the advice here helped me avoid it I believe. Few observations:
1) Unless the road is icy, get in the habit of turning on the exhaust brake every time you get in.
2) If you are looking at a 4x4, get rid of the stock tires (if it still has them).
3) Read Blake's "How To" in the high performance section and do it. Even if HP is not your goal. Do it. Better mileage. Less weight. Runs better. Less heat. Easier/cheaper maintenance. (a couple of egr cleanings at the dealership an you will have paid for it).
4) If you don't "Do it" keep a very close watch on your oil level. It tends to grow on some trucks...particularly those that do not get worked HARD. The oil level can get high enough to allow the CCV filter to saturate and allow oil mist in the front side of the turbo.
5) On 4-door trucks the wire harness going from the body in to the rear doors will break. It will.
6) The grab handles on the a-pillar will break if you actually use them. There is a fix.
7) Although mine has yet to malfunction (knock on wood), the a/c air flow control door is a weak spot.
All that said, I still like the truck a lot, particularly after following Blake's advice. Prior to that, I was thinking I messed up.
