2007 6.7L Cummins 4x4
I bought a 2007 6.7L Cummins 4x4 from a guy who said it was in a flood. The truck won't start and doesn't have compression. I opened the valve cover and the rocker arm was off the pushrod and the crosshead was next to the valve spring. The owner claimed he never ran it while in the water, but he probably tried to start it. I am going to pull the head. Do you think it's a stuck valve, bent valve, or worse? Can water some how bend the valve? Maybe corrosion made it stick to get slapped? Rings are destroyed? What should I expect to see?

Excpect to see bent valves and pushrods. Broken cam shaft, damage to pistons, rings and possible bent crankshaft. Good luck, hopfully it won't be too bad. The condition that causes this is called hydrolock; water will not compress therefore the energy from trying has to go somewhere.
The flood was actually the storm surge from Hurricane Ike. It was in sea water. So far, I have replaced the dash with the wiring harnesses, the engine wiring harness, the distribution module (fuse block), and solenoid pack in the transmission, and got it flashed at the dealer. Now, it cranks when I turn the key. All that has taken me about 8 months to accomplish. I sold my old diesel excursion to buy this. I paid $7500 for it. It sounds okay when I crank it...there's no knocking...and the push rods are not bent- just from what I see under the valve cover. I am worried about bent piston rods, but I'm looking for the compression problem. Hopefully, I will have the head pulled today. Is anyone suspicious of an exhaust brake sticking? And if there is a bent valve, how would it get bent from water? Maybe I should just buy a new engine. Anyone got one for sale?

I wouldn't replace the engine if you can get it running for a reasonable $$$. I think the biggest thing that I would worry about would be the electronics but you replaced most of that it sounds like.

If I was in your situation and had the cash to boot, Id be building one heck of a bad 6.7
Ya I totally agree. Here is your chance to build a engine to your own specs. Nice charger, head studs, ported head, upgraded cam ect..hopefully nothing wrong with the bottom end and its in the valves.
I wasn't planning on taking apart the whole thing- just the head as long as nothing else is wrong, but I see your point; however I already have a near 600 hp '71 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 440. I just want a good truck for a daily driver. Buy, if the problem is in the head I will consider putting some money in the head. Might as well...
