2007 6.7 mistake
2007 6.7 mistake
I ordered a used 2007 2500 Dodge (80,000miles) from a dealer in Texas because I couldn't find one anywhere close to me. It was advertised with a 5.9. I just popped the hood to find the 6.7. I normally wouldn't mind except that I need it to tow long distances (about 6000 miles a year) with a 10,000lb load. I wanted the 5.9 because everything I've heard and read is it gets better fuel economy and is more durable. Should I get rid of it or keep it?

If so, the dealer should make it right for you. Thats the first place I would be addressing this.
I found it on Autotrader. The written description was Dodge 5.9 Duramax 2500. Obviously the Duramax part was wrong but I see those mistakes all the time on Autotrader. I assumed the 5.9 was correct. And of course it is no longer listed because it is sold.
I am sick to my stomach cause my wife and I specifically bought it for towing her offroad truck to Moab (2200 miles).
So is it going to give me a problem with fuel mileage and reliability?

I would look at doing the DPF deletes and a programmer if you decide to keep it.
What has the dealer got to say about the misleading ad? Get him to knock a lot of money off the sell price and buy the delete stuff with it.

It is an auto. And now that my initial disappointment and anger has subsided, I might just keep it. I talked to a local dealer and he said he would give me what I paid for it if he could find me the truck I originally wanted.
And it is one clean truck!!!

once you delete, the 6.7 is a bored and stroked 5.9
my chipped 6.7 pulls much harder and has alot more power than my chipped 5.9 did
i have pulled 2 built jeeps on an 11K# trailer (GTW 23K#) thru thr mountains in Arkansas without a problem (stock 6.7) the e-brake is awesome
keep it, delete it, and lets go wheelin

I agree, once the 6.7 can breath, I'll never go back to the 5.9 with the 4 speed auto. As long as you don't abuse the transmission, it will tow heavy loads without an issue and the added bonus of the engine brake, you will have an awesome combination!!!
I tow 6k per yr with 10 to 11k behind my 6.7, 6sp auto, 2500, 07.5 4x4, hd, quad cab, thunder road package and have had only minor problems which have not reoccured in a yr now(was reprogrammed by dealer 3x), just turned 40k. Bought new, Oct 2007. Kept stock except for cold air intake(dry). Through Rockies with no problems, exhaust brake, auto tranny are great. Enjoy.
