Question 2007.5 Air Bags or not?

Is it safe to say the 2007.5 2500 and 3500 trucks have the same suspension except for the 3500 having the "overloads", essentially giving it the "one ton" suspension? My buddy with his 3/4 ton 5.9 and I have been pondering this and think it to be so.

With my 1500+lb fifth wheel pin weight, I noticed I get flashed more often than not on a two lane with low beams on and when I put on the high beams, they are in the trees...or at least off the road. I did notice the other day that the trailer definitely changes the attitude of the truck...it's a bit "nose up". Maybe it was near a Chevy?

Has anyone put any air bags on their 2007.5 with a fifth wheel hitch already installed? I'm checking out the Firestone Ride Rites and it seems to me the hich plates bolted on the side of the frame will need some mods to mount the air bags. I'm considering them only to get the truck levelled out when towing and not really considering towing anything heavier (famous last words).

The first thing I would check is where the hitch was mounted in relationship to the axle. Is it forward by an inch or two, directly centered or behind?

Doesn't matter, your truck holds it head high all the time cause its proud. Rightly so.

I have the Firestone Ride Rites on my 2007.5 3500. The truck also has the BW turnover ball for the gooseneck and the companion hitch for the 5th wheel.

We first installed the BW and then installed the Firestones and encountered no problems with the fit etc of either. The install is a straight forward bolt on process.

I don't know that the Firestones are needed as the truck sits about level with the 2000lbs + of 5th wheel pin weight. Unloaded I have 10lbs of air in the bags and loaded (with the 5th wheel) about 50lbs of air in the bags brings the rear of the truck back to about the stock unloaded height and seems to stiffened up the suspension.

Good luck,

George

I installed the Ride Rites a few days ago. The install was very simple, the longest thing was routing the air lines. No problem with the 5th wheel side plates on the frame since the Ride Rite brackets actually attached inside the rails, not outside.

I put the compressor /switch package in today. Works like a darn.

Later this week I go Rving.
