08' Delivered
My first impressions, 250 miles from town to home.
The new 6.7 mated to the 68RFE is really impressive. I happily parted company with manuals a few years ago and never regretted it. But this new motor tranny set up is the best I've ever experienced. Powerfull, quiet and seamless operationally is how I would describe it. The 5.9 with the 48 was good but this is way better (so far). Flexibility and the paddle shifter makes it feel strong, operationally simple and very businesslike.
The motor tranny set up gives the sensation that the truck is never getting winded. IMO it easily bests the 5.9's performance. I did a few strong passes on the Interstate and the truck really steps out with a strong progressive feel when you ask it to.
Mixed MPG for the 250 miles per the overhead was a little over 15.5 which came in much better than I expected. This morning, I was getting only 16.5/17.5 running the 5.9 into the dealership with 40K miles. That is, if you believe the overhead computer.
I've always preferred simple, functional and purposeful interior instruments and layout which the 08' retains. Mercifully, on the SLT they have jettisoned the fake wood dash which I couldn't stand and replaced it with a brushed aluminum radio faceplate as well as keeping chrome to a minimum.
On a HD truck this expensive the selectionable exhaust brake should have been OE from the get go. The dash switch selector is a quick and easy stab away.
Running gear is vibration free and banging up the canyon the truck felt it was
built little stouter than the 06' but the platforms look to be the same.
The Tech told me they checked the computer and the truck had all the updates before it left the factory so now it's "show me time". So far, so good.

Dan, I'll drag out the camera this weekend and try to post.
But the truck is already covered in dirt. When I go to town and wash my truck every once in awhile, people at the car wash just stare at me.

Apache, I feel like we've been there through the "dating" stage (while you researched your truck), the "pregnancy" (while you waited for it) and now the "delivery" (it's finally here)!
You could at least pass out cigars.
I hope your truck continues to serve you well. I love driving mine every day.

Flatman, thanks to you and everyone for the good advice while trying to sort out buying vs waiting.
So far, I really like the truck. We'll see how it likes hard work.

While swapping the OEM Rugged Trails for REVOs' this morning, I noticed the protection group no longer includes a fuel tank skid plate only one for the transfer case. A couple of years ago, I saw what an errant rock can do to your fuel tank. Not pretty.
Does anyone know why this was deleted? Something to do with adding the Bluetech DPF Exhaust plumbing?
