08' 6.7 - Decision Time
My thinking exactly, but again if the environment is so hard on the truck then I don't know what I'd do.
I won't be after another truck for at least a few more years myself (Lord willing and the creek don't rise!)

The 5.9 isn't perfect but so far it's been dependable to the extent of recently getting my wife and I up to the ranch late one night during a sudden 6"/1 hour rain which seriously flooded our canyon off road trail.
If a truck breaks, I'm in real trouble.
My gut feel is to stay with the 5.9 but after two years of hard work, I'd feel better with new riggin', but not if the 08s' aren't as steady as my 5.9. Also, I guess the consensus is the 2500/3500 restyle won't be until the 2010 model year.
Thanks to everyone for the good advice. Tough call either way.

Apache,
You could look for a new '07 5.9 3500... there are still some out there, depending on the amenities you are looking for. This would buy you the two years you normally hold your trucks for and out you right in line for the new body style after it had been out for 6-9 months of teething.

I received some feedback today to go ahead with an 08'. No 07s' equipped the way I want.
I'm having numbers run on an 08' TRX4 Off Road equipped like my 06'. If the numbers are what I expect, it's decision time.
Uneasy at best.

Ordered an 08' today.
They told me the TRX 4 Offroad package isn't offered in 08' for the Heavy Duties. You have to order TRX4 Offroad options separately (L/S, Protection Group, A/Ts' etc.). I guess the old pack was a marketing ride.
Anyone seeing better than 17.0 mpg at 75 mph?

Truck is KZU and red tagged.
Reading posts that codes are still being thrown, even on the 08s' is pretty disappointing. I'd like to hear from anyone who ordered an 08' if they have been back for emissions warranty?
For what it's worth, I told the dealer to make sure every possible effort is made to ensure it leaves town with the latest flashes and warranty work.
I won't lie to you. I really am apprehensive about buying this truck.

If I were you, I'd think about staying away from the forums for awhile and get back to thinking about your new truck that's on the way. These forums can be a great place to get info, but it wasn't that long ago when we would just buy a car or truck because we wanted it and we'd deal with whatever happened as it happened to us as individuals. In my opinion, while the Internet can educate us in so many ways, it has the opportunity to ruin what can be a wonderful time in a person's life. I remind myself that while my truck might "throw a code" in the future, I'm a very fortunate person to be able to afford a NEW, 40K truck to begin with. There are a lot of people out there going week to week, paycheck to paycheck just to put food on the table and clothes on their backs. I'm not going to let the thought of my truck "throwing a code" occupy my life. If it happens, I'll deal with it.
Think big picture.
Well said.
Apache, I can also say that I went through a worst case scenario with my 2005 Ford KR F250 with the 6.0 powerstroke. That truck was in and out of the dealership 10 times in the first 6 months to replace the gauge cluster, a steering gear, fix the death wobble in the steering, etc, etc. Once that stuff was fixed the engine started blowing up and leaving me stranded on the roadside. The truck had only 30K miles on it and I couldn't trust it to even drive empty on vacation. I took a huge hit when I traded it in on my CTD.
In spite of all that, I am very happy with the 6.7. I am not seeing any cases of the 6.7 leaving folks stranded on the side of the road. There were a few plugged DPF's in the early days but that seems to have passed. You may get a CEL but I doubt it will result in you having to walk.
Lots of people complain about the 6.7 MPG. I guess I'm lucky, mine gets 13-14 around town and 17-18 on the highway. For a 7,000 pound 4x4 truck with 350 HP I think thats pretty good mileage. None of my Fords ever did better than that.

I have 700 miles in my 2008 6.7. I'm smilin so far. Very pleased with the truck. I would buy an 08 and not look back. Any 5.9's left over could haveproblems from sitting around tooo long. So order an 08 or get an 2008 now. The incentives are great and I got my truck 7000 less than I could a 2008 Chevy or 4000 less than a Ford even though the sticker on my truck was 2000 more than the Ford and the Chevy.

Ditto there. Except for one tank, all my hand calculated MPG numbers have been better than my turbo-lagging gutless Powerstroke were. With the stock 6.7 I get so much more performance than my last 6.0 that the mileage is a non issue.

Thanks guys. Good perspective. Agree on the incentives. They surely set the timing for me too.
I've never been afraid to throw my rope, so hat down tight and we'll see how we come out. Well try it. That's all a steer can do.
By the way, your fuel mileages look pretty good given the bigger motor and smog gear. My 5.9 averages about 16 or so without the trailers.
