So if I'm reading this correctly, the ECM lock out is not something that would come about from taking the latest flash. It's only in trucks built after 3/4/09 (or that have had a new ECM installed since that date).

Any key indicators to look at to determine whether the ECM is one of the new ones or not?

I do not know if the ecms carry a tag with a build or install date on them.

A new truck, or one that has its original ecm, just go by the build date on the door jamb sticker.

I guess I'll be the one to suggest something different. I'd go with a 2010 model. The ECM lockout will be solved by the aftermarket soon enough, and if you just can't stand to wait that long there is STILL a code free DPF/EGR deletion solution available in the Edge Race Juice w/Attitude. It has the option to turn the emissions equipment off and, since it is not a downloader, it is not affected by the ECM lockout. If it were me, I would be looking at a 2010 Ram 3500, as the 2500's also have TPMS which is a pain to deal with. The 3500's do not come equipped with TPMS. My main reasoning for suggesting the 2010 would be the larger back seat and updated interior. The difference between the seats in the '09 1500 (which is the same as the '10 2500/3500) and my '08 2500 is night and day. 10 minutes spent sitting in the cab of one of the new interiors and you will see exactly what I mean.

I tend to like the Megacab of course. So, I'd go for the best deal to be had which would probably be on 07. Do the deletes and that year is good as any of those years. The 2010 with new interior is always tempting.

I'd go with the '10. I like the new interior. If you can wait to Nov. or Dec. I'd go with the '10. When I was looking if the new trucks had come out now instead of Late yr. I would have had something to compare with. You can get a "real" crew cab.

I'm with Seydler3 My favorite truck is the 2nd gen Dodges!

To the original poster: How much is money a factor in your decision? If it is not much of a factor then go for the 2010.

Well, money is always a factor. May hold off for the '10s and see how they look in person and see what deals (if any) are there on the '09s.

Or who knows, my '01 might carry me around forever.

Justin I think your 01 has lots of life yet. No need to rush the decision. But if I were in your shoes I think i'd wait for the new body style and maybe even the following year for them to work out some of the bugs.
