07 6.7 to buy or not

havent been keeping up on the new ulsd trucks i know the big 3 have all been having thier issues. i currently drive a 06 chevy cclb duramax. the problem is the rear cab legroom isnt enough for 4 adults. saw a great deal on an 07 new 6.7 mega cab. i had 2 6.0 fords one 03 buyback one 04 lemon. so id rather live with the legroom issue than end up back in court. seems the initial emission problems have gotten better. what was the problem with the turbos was it taken care of. just wanted to know what the people who actually own one think. trying to decide on what to do .thanks for any help.

I own a 07.5 RAM with the 6.7L engine. I've had a few issues since I purchased it new last May. The most troublesome ones were the constant CEL's that many others on this forum have been experiencing. I had the turbo replaced about 3 or 4 weeks ago and the latest reflashes done. So far, the truck appears to be running pretty well with few, if any, CEL's. The few times the CEL came on after the turbo replacement my scanner showed a code not having to do with the turbo...so, that part was fixed. I erased the new code a few times and it hasn't come back in a while.

I think these issues with the emissions is finally, if slowly, getting worked out.

The main problem was that pcm was not programmed right from the factory and so when it was time for the truck to regen the pcm would never actually know the the filter in the exhaust is getting clogged up so the truck would start acting poorly or not even run..... and in some cases soot would start building up in the turbo taking out the the turbo and dpf (diesel particlate filter) but the latest flash has seemed to correct the problem

thanks for the info. i went to look at truck this morning. its an slt was supposed to be loaded. i did not realize how few options you get on a 51k truck. no leather , 1 power seat , smaller tires had the $2600 dvd system. no sunroof. it was almost a twin to my chevy . not sure its worth the 12k loss. the diesel, auto tranny and bluetec system add alot to the price. price was 38500. its at scap dodge in fairfield conn. if anyone has an interest in it they had an add in paper with price.

I'm sure you can do better than 51K for a loaded Mega. I know there was a black one here leather, sunroof everything for 51K. It was a 07.5 however.

Fully loaded you should pay no more than 45k. That is every option available!

i have had an 07.5 since last April and I have not had one bit of trouble. I have 10,000 miles on it and I have towed with it on several occassions with not a bit of trouble. I haven't done any engine mods though. I think it is pretty stong on it's own and I don't want to screw up any warranties. Gas mileage sucks but I knew that going in.

I have a 08 QC and have ridden in the back of my bosses 03 QC for 140K his 05QC for 96K and now his 07 MC 67K and you can see what I got after all that. I really don't like the MC that much and the AC sucks front and rear and its not just the screen or door prob. It will not blow hard or cold Front or rear. I hear guys all the time say that they have to have the room but I am 5'11" and have plenty of room behind a guy that is 6'2" (all legs) driving in a QC. Of all the guys that I know with a MC my boss is the only one I know that ever has an adult in the back seat Evey day M-F at over 1000miles a week. most do good to take there kids to school once a week but "they just have to have more room". Just my thoughts. I got mine for just over $10K off sticker price. Go with the 08 they usually have more rebates. They use to knock a lot off of older unsold models but not on the Cummins trucks because thy know they will sell. If you want a MC get one and dont let anyone stop you. The new 6spd autos are realy nice and mine will out pull (same trailer on same hill same day with me driveing both) my bosses 07 6spd manual SB Con FE clutch same 3.73 gears as mine and 65HP edge. It will hold even with his with his new 100HP Edge Juice w/ Attitude (that I had to install for him after he rode in mine) and mine will out brake his with the Exhaust brake and the Tow/Haul doing the down shifting and just a little brake peddle. Even with a manual he has to use his brakes more to slow down than I do.

mine is 07.5 Megacab, so far good excep one issue that the CEL and Electronic throttle control lite came a month b4 when temperature here hit -45c , then took to the dealer and foud out Breater Filter( front axle filter) was full, I couldnt beleive, I had only 600 Kms at that time, then breather was replaced, and the flash updated to AX, since then Fuel milage went up from 14mpg to all the way 18 mpg on highway with 16mpg in city driving,, No issues since then, Mine is bone stock now have abt 1200 Kms only, And I am from way upnorth in Edmonton, Alberta ,Canada, I hope when I am in summer fuel my mpg will still go up, Waiting to get rid of DPF crap too with Code free DPF delete kit...
Over all I love my 07.5 Cummins.

I don't recommend them, my first diesel and have been to the shop for CEL 4 times so far and finally the fourth time they replaced the turbo. As high as diesel is if you can pull with a gasser or your current truck is running good, I'd keep it. They have not figured out the bugs in this new emmissions era and we are the guinea pigs, unfortunately. If you need a diesel buy a mildly used 06 chevy or find one that they can't get rid of at a dealership.

I hesitated a good deal but have been very satisfied with the 08' I ordered.

The model year probably makes a difference as well as keeping it out of stop and go town traffic.

Open road towing and grunt 4 x 4 work. Sure like mine.

I have an 07 which I purchased at the end of April 07, truck manufactured/put together in Mexico in March. I read a lot about about the 07.5's and I am really courious as to the difference between the two. I have had absolouty no problems (knock on wood) with anything in/on or under my truck. I've seen the replace oil flash only three times in the past year. This is my first diesel and I drive city most of the time. I don't like the cost of Low Sulfur Diesel but there is nothing I can do about it. I really didn't buy this truck for mileage (good thing I guess). Shucks I don't even know what a CEL is. I have a great truck and if in the market, I would buy another diesel.
