Wow, look at my air filter

Was bored today so I thought I'd check the air filter and oil. The filter has 19k on it and the picture below is exactly how it looked when I pulled it out. I was a little surprised.

There not dirty until the wire mesh is bowed on the top from the engine trying it's best to eat the filter.

Man, that's nasty! I don't get anywhere near 19k on mine. I don't run fields, very rare for me to see a dirt road and 10-12k is all I dare.

Yep. And I like how they say their filters actually work better when dirty. Say what? I wonder how much dirt is just flying through till it finally gets "dirty" and begins to work better.

Now that you mentioned it, mine was like that. the mess was raised about 1/8 inch. I thought that was just how it was made?

....and leave them in there long enough it will fold into a "/\" shape. I've seen them that bad.

Before I upgraded my intake, I found snow on the roads up here in canada to be the worst. After 500 km's of following a big truck on the highway the filter would be pushed up nearly 3 or 4 inches from plugging full of snow and the engine wanting to eat it like J Body mentioned. a nice cold air kit doesn't collect at all. I don't know if i'm stubborn but i kept putting in afe or k&n drop ins at like 60 bucks a pop all winter.

I'd say a little shorter maintanance interval is in order for you.

Couple of months back, I noted that my filter minder was pulled all the way with less than 2K miles. This is what I found. Some guys thought I had mice or squirrels in the truck. I don't believe that's the case.
