Smile Won't start when cold

My o3' will not start now even when it is plugged in all night. I live in Kansas so it is getting down to 28 or so at night. It cranks over fast and the voltage is around 13.2. If I give it a smell of ether it fires right up and will start every time the rest of the day. I put a Fass platinum pump on a month ago as I blamed the original for hard starts. The truck has about 240,000 on it. The grid heater relay comes on and times out after about 10 seconds or so but I suppose the element could be burnt out. I have not ohmed it yet. Looking for any ideas.

First of all, welcome to DTR. If those are your original sticks, they may be leaking by and you won't build enough rail pressure at crank RPMs to start the engine. Best bet is to send them to F1 for test, tips, rebuild if necessary.

Second, if your 'smell' of ether reaches your grid heaters while they are hot, expect a slight separation of your intake manifold parts from the rest of the engine. If your hood is up, the parts may fly across the garage. If not, expects dents.
Back to evening brew. . .
