You can get the WIX 57620XE from fleetfilter. This filter looks nothing like the 57620. It is identical in external appearance to the Fleetguard Stratapore LF16035. I don't know if the WIX XE has the Stratapore media or not, but there are some synthetics in the media.

Oh wait...this filter is not approved...use at your own peril...I won't be responsible for your 5.9 exploding because you used a 57620XE.

I took some pics of the LF16035, 57620XE, and 57620. They're all external pics because I can't afford to go hacking into filters right now, but you can definitely see the XE and LF16035 look identical and nothing like the regular WIX.

I'll try and submit the pics for approval on Friday night or get them hosted elsewhere.

Regards.

[QUOTE=Geico266;1281017]Use what you want, but the only filter that are approved for your engine are:
Part # Manufactuer
5083285AA Mopar
LF16035 Fleetguard Stratapore
LF3894 Fleetguard Stratapore
LF3972 Fleetguard Cellulose
LF3552 Fleetguard Microglas
LF3959 Fleetguard Cellulose
3937695 Cummins Cellulose
FL896 MotorCraft Cellulose
L45335 Purolator Cellulose
PF1070 AC Delco Cellulose
QUOTE]

This is a list issued on a TSB back in 2001, so I would imagine it is outdated. Non-approved filters in the TSB are ones that use Neoprene compounds internally. According to the Wix web site, they now only use silicone gaskets internally.

Wix is a great filter.

Wix is a great filter. Have been to numerous filtering schools and they always are at the top of the list. Hell, they even make the Mopar filter. Keep running your Wix and don't worry about the "approved" list below.

Why anyone would spend $40K on a truck and put unapproved filters on it is simply beyond reason.

Last I heard was that Fleet Guard still made the Mopar filters used at your local Dodge dealership that they put on a Cummins engine.

Not sure I would buy the WIX filter for 40 bucks when I can get the fleetguard for 12 or the Mopar for 19.

From fleetfilter.com:

2003-2006 Dodge 5.9 Diesel

42846 Air Filter- $13.07 each

33585 Fuel Filter- $7.62 each

57620 Oil Filter- $4.24 each

If you order multiple filters, the prices are hard to beat.

not sure where you are buying from but the wix filters cost me $9.99.
From what we have been told, Wix has been making the filters for the Dode Cummins for the last several years. Mopar just puts their paint on them. You disect the two of them and you can pretty much tell.

Fleetfilter.com is where alot of folks who need multiple filters at once get them. I have used geno's as well but it is almost impossible to beat the prices at fleetfilters.

I wouldn't sweat using any NAPA Gold filter. They are top notch. That is all we used at the shop I used to work at. In fact, the next filter going in my truck is a NAPA Gold, just because that is what I have in the back of the truck. I use Fleetguard when I can, but they are sort of hard to find around here. Of course, I haven't looked THAT hard

Oh yeah, and now I'm thinking about the air in my spare. Thanks. Jerk

Your local Napa guy is just looking for people who do not know any better. You would have to be nuts to pay $39 for an oil filter.

I've exhaustedly researched this subject And have come to the conclusion that the 57620XE & the LF16035 are one in the same.
The Wix can be had for 8.17 , free shipping on orders over $50 from. http://www.filter1.com/
