Winterized Fuel?
What do they add to fuel that "winterizes" it. I sometimes travel over the pass to some cold country with valley fuel in my tank. I'll sometimes top off the tank with the local winterized fuel to help in the colder climate. Sometimes I don't get to add the cold climate fuel....what works good as a additive to prevent a problem in very cold weather?
Thanks!
Thanks!

this link should get you started.., I'm new to diesels but I've learned alot from this forum and so far everything leads to this particular additive. just my own experiences so far.

I know about the additives and intend to use the one mentioned....but in very cold areas they "winterize" fuel with a percentege of kerosene or somthing to keep the fuel from gelling up in very cold tempetures. I am looking for what to add to a warm climate fuel that will handle very cold climate.
We drive into area's that go as low as -20F*... We don't believe what they tell us at the stations... we had about 30 school buses last winter gel up on the routes here because they weren't paying attention....
When you move from a warm area to a cold area we always add to the tank with our prefered additive..... use them based on container suggested ratio's.
From our fuel supplier I've learned the following.... it the weather turns cold they blend down.. with their own additive..... but when they dump the fuel in the stations tanks theres some there... so the real ratio, and what its really good to is unknow because they don't add additive to the stations tanks... just the fresh fuel they are dumping.... see the catch here.....
He told me that all #2 is good down to at least +10*f, so when we see our trucks going into an area thats below that we start to blend down..... and do it at a fill up.....
We buy ours by the gallon and keep it with the trucks all winter...
