Winter tranny temps?
Winter tranny temps?
I have an 06 mega cab w/ automatic tranny. I recently installed a set of ISSPRO guages on the a- pillar. The temperature here has been around -8° to 0° on a regular basis. Driving down the highway, I noticed the tranny guage would fall to nothing and come back up when I slowed down the airflow through the cooler (like slowing to go through a town or something). Question is, is it hard on the tranny not to be running it warmer? Should I cardboard out some of the airflow? Am I hurting anything? I have to mention that this Dodge is an awesome cold weather starter. And she runs like a raped ape with this subfreezing air temps!!
My truck does the same. I have the winter front with (1) flap open when less than 20 degrees. My probe is on the transmission hot leg. I have been thinking the same thing. Once on the highway o/d engaged I wonder how it keeps warm. I believe it has a heater in it, but don't quote me.
The sending unit is mounted in the cooler line. Got the kit from diesel manor. Tranny usually reads around 135° on the highway when the weather is warmer. I'm sure its just that the cooler is doing its job, but I want to know if running the tranny so cold is hard on it.
