Wierd stuff today.........

I was driving home from going out to supper with my Dad. I was rolling along at about 60 km/h and without warning, engine started to stumble and get loud / lik only two cylinders were firing - generally ran like a 1950 Massey 44 Cockshutt Diesel Special if you know what I mean. I got a look at my fuel pressure as I wheeled into a mall parking lot - 2 psi. Got truck shut down and waited for a minute. Fired back up like nothing ever happened.

I got truck home and parked in the garage without any other hiccups. 7-9 psi all the rest of the way home.

Check engine light is on, but after checking for codes 6 or 7 times, I cannot get a code to come up. All dashes along the bottom in the read out all times checked. So, all of this business didn't even throw a code.

Maybe it did but you need a reader to see it.

Hard code would show then? Maybe I can get rid of the soft code by unplugging batteries for a half hour.

I might go to Advance auto or the like and try their free reader first.

I believe you get only one chance to get codes w/ the key.

When you did the 3 key clicks did you get a "done" message after the dashed lines? If you didn't see the "done" message then you didn't wait long enough to see the code/s. I bet you are gonna find either a rail pressure related code or a MAP sensor related code. My XZT did this and it was poor connections at the RP and MAP sensors. The fix was a little dielectric grease in those connections. Good luck.

Oh and codes stay in the ecm until you have a number of "driving cycles" without the condition that caused them. I believe it is 5 or 7 driving cycles. A driving cycle is a start and run up to normal coolant temps and vehicle speeds and shut down.

Got the "done" message on every try.

I just went through this too. I did my connections with grease, and it still did it a couple of times. A couple of times when it would idle up it would miss on one cylinder, and it even died on me a few times. Talked to the dealer and they told me unless it did it when they had it in the shop, they couldn't really do anything. I finally got fed up with it, I had to haul my friends 1 ton to the shop so I hooked up to my gooseneck and worked the snot out of it. Has been running good since then (knock on wood)
