Why did 03 quad cab handle more tongue weight?

Had a 2003 quad cab 2500 srw 4wd shortbed, didn't get on overloads with race trailer. Now have a 2006 DRW 4wd megacab and with the same trailer it is on the overloads hard. Tired of listening to them squeak on the rubber pads. What gives? Anybody else noticed this, hate to buy airbags for a 1ton when a 3/4 ton didn't need them.
Also had to change the drop hitch, had a six" on the 03, went to a 4" on the 06.

I'd be will to bet that DC put softer regular springs for a better ride and intended for the truck to sit on the overloads when needed. I figure if you want the truck level get air bags. Oh yeah, I want your Camaro.

Our 03 dually definately had stiffer springs. Our 06 dually squats much more than our 03 did. But the 06 rides much better.
