I have thought about it as well...that and a set of 285's would probably drop my rpms a bunch. Now if I could just find a reputable shop to do the work.

Since this year, I believe. It is an option on the 08 2500s on the Dodge web site.

A set of 20 inch wheels will take a 3: 73 auto to approx 3:55 ratio,1800 rpm at 70 mph ,i get 20- 21 mpg u.s. at this speed ,hand calc. ,a cheap alternative,gear change for a 4x4 costs 3000 $$$ plus.

20" rims with what size tires? Wheel diameter in of itself won't change anything.

There was a lengthy thread by a guy who did the 3:42 swap in his truck a few weeks back: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...AAM+gear+ratio
Aftermarket 3:42 gears for 11.5 AAM: www.ringpinion.biz www.justdifferentials.com

what the heck is alboy talking about
anyways the only other drawback I see is recalibrating the speedo.

as far as if it is too tall I guess what would it hurt to run around in 5th instead of 6th?

And if the gears are to far apart I could drop down a size in tire.

See my sig, stock rims w/265/17-634 r per mile ,285/17-635 ,305/55/20-623 rev per mile, only raises the truck one inch in height, the dealer could not recalibrate for the 305 s ,but my edge/ att could.

Wink

Someone needs to learn how to read a tire size. 265, 285 305 dont mean squat by themselves, as thats the tire WIDTH from sidewall to sidewall. That combined with the ASPECT RATIO (45, 50, 60, 70, etc.) gives the tire diameter. A 305/50/17 means the tire is 50% of the 305 in height from rim/bead to outer edge.
Comprende?
