Wheres the beef
Hey guys ,is it normal that the tires on these trucks won't spin .Two examples
I was trying to pull a truck out of a ditch first in 2 wheel then in 4 wheel the motor RPMs come up 2200 RPM feels like its working but tires not turning. 2nd when I drove off road into deep snow switched into 4 wheel truck stopped in the deep snow when I tried to hammer down to back up or forward the motor reved loaded up and same as before the tires won't spin had to put the truck into 4 low then the tires spun and was easy to back out.
what gives ?? is there some traction control?? can it be switched on /off is it the torque converter ?? is there a flash ???

Sorry for your luck blk dually, It's stories like this, I'm glad I have a 6spd.
My dad had similar problems with his truck, he always had to put it in 4lo to pull himself out of anything. He said he couldn't even go up a steep hill without 4lo.
He got so Edit he didn't buy another 6spd, he sold his 03 CTD for a Durajunk.
Now HE'S REALLY Edit

just curious, did you get your speedo recalibrated? with all of the electronics on these trucks I wouldn't be surprised if not recalibrating would throw the comp off enough to not know what the heck is going on. i see you have 315's and thats quite a jump from stock. I have em and recalibrated. might have nothing to do with it, might have everything to do with it....
Mine wouldn't turn the 315 tires over on pavement until I got my new converter. Maybe it's time to replace yours with a better unit...
BTW, That's a lot of tire you're trying to spin!!!

natstayl, how do I know what tranny I have? yes I have limited slip, this a problem in stock up to the performace setting on the programer. Truck was in the shop today got the latest flash for the tranny some towing flash, somehow don't think that the problem
Do you have an HO or a SO? If it's one of the later SOs then you may have a 48re but if it's an earlier one it will be a 47re. Which gears do you have? 3:73s or 4:10s. I guess you don't have the window sticker from when the truck was new?!?!
Mine, with all my mods except tranny mods, wouldn't spin the tires on dry pavement no matter what. Off road, though, it would.

blkdually, as Dodgezilla says if yours is an HO should have had a 48RE. (HO engine label says 305 HP)
Regardless of the engine, there's also an "Equipment Identification" label in the glove compartment. If your label has "DGA" beside the transmission, it means it's a 4spd auto. The next line will be "DG8" if it's a 48RE or "DGP" if it has a 47RE. The label will also show whether or not the torque converter is locking type or not. Hope this helps.

How many miles on your truck? Also I'm curious about the flash the dealer is installing. Does it have a TSB number or a label that would identify the flash? I'm also anxious to hear what the flash feels like. Hope you will Keep us posted.

natstayl the flash was just refered to as s towing improvment flash it hasn't made a big difference shift are firmer but doubt it will help the converter.I did check the motor and is an SO motor and probably is the47re trans. spoke a local diesel performance shop the said
i should have the converter changed to aATS unit and valvebody mod. would this fix this problem?? they also say the TST is a better box than the Bully Dog.
Any thougths would be apprecated

Well, I can from my experience say, your lack of power output is a loss through the converter, get that replaced, one before you shell it and two to get alot more power to the ground. I'm going to go with a Suncoast converter I simply thought a $600 core charge from ATS is stupid.

Other thing to keep in mind is that it sounds like you're talking about low traction situations. Are you sure that both wheels aren't spinning, or that one is spinning and the other isn't? The reason I ask is that I, too, have a limited slip rear and on dry pavement it will spin both tires just fine (left some nice skid marks that way). But when I have reduced traction (namely snow), it will transfer all the power from the wheel that grips to the wheel that slips. I'm angry about this, but apparently it is a common problem. I'm thinking of going back to the dealer and complaining about it when I have a long enough period of time that I can go without my truck to have them redo the rear axle.
