i have a chance to get a 04 motor plus trans with only 40k on them for real cheap... but that is what scares me... i don't know if it is hot or clean.. the guy say it's clean, but not for the price he's asking.. the id plate is gone but is there any way to look it up and trace it to a vin #... i have a cop friend that could look it up for me if i knew where to look for other numbers.

 

Are both the ID plates gone? There's one on the side of the valve cover,& there's another one on the side of the timeing case.
