Where to: Buy ball joints
Where to: Buy ball joints
I have a 2005 CTD short bed. The ball joints are shot, got 69k on the truck now. I'm looking on where to find a solid, long lasting ball joint for a decent price. I'm looking to buy today so can someone help me
Just did my ball joints last week. I got moog greasables for the lowers from rockauto.com. good price and fast shipping. I broke down and got the $$ carli $$ uppers because this is the 2nd time in 60k miles i've had to do the uppers and i wanted this to be the last time. rockauto.com also has the moog uppers. i needed a press also and i got the one from quad4x4.com and it worked really well. hope that helps.
Same thing for me--Moog lowers and Carli uppers. High dollar, but I should never have to worry about it again. Had the same problem with ball joints on my former 03 quadcab--Dodge ball joints are junk! Go with aftermarket and greaseable. The labor to keep doing it again and again is what sucks. It ain't an easy job to replace ball joints, at least not for me. For guys that have the means and know how, great. But for just about the rest of us, that means putting it into the shop. After the warranty is up, I don't like paying extra for something that should have been right since day one.
I just did ball joints on my 01(I know 2nd gen). I got greaseable Moog ball joints from Advance Auto Parts. Lifetime warranty. They also had a 23 piece ball joint tool kit you can use. It was a $150 deposit. You can keep it up to 89 days and still get your deposit back. Have plenty of good penetrating fluid and use it freely.
I read an interesting piece on one of the 4x4 parts web sites. They said greaseable joints are good if you plan to grease them regularly, about every 3500 miles otherwise stick to the sealed units. I also saw someplace that the upper joint on third gens acts more like a king pin. Most of the weight is born by the lower joint.

If you get greaseable ones I recommend the gease hat CTM uses for their U Joints. It is a tractor grease that lasts a really long time is ter proof and is just about th gooiest stickiest stuff that I have ever seen.
Yeah,Napa precision ball joints and u joints. The u joint bearing cups have way better seals than stock, and the cup is a much heavier duty piece.Do the ball joints and u joints all together.Save yourself the hassle later.
