wheel bearings
wheel bearings
i have a set of front driver side wheel bearings that are showing some play in them. the truck is two years old with 24000 on the clock. my question is what do you think the dealer will say about replacing them under warranty with a 4 1/2" lift and 35" tires? just kind of curious what i'm going to be up against.
considering that you can not just replace the wheel bearings-because the hub assembly is a sealed unit! you need a new hub assembly- which runs about 250.00 to 300.00 bucks. depends on your dealer- they may give you some grief about the lift, etc. when i replaced my entire front end at the beginning of the summer- i went with the dyna-trac lock out hubs. if i ever have to replace a wheel bearing in the future- it will cost me under 20.00 bucks. but- you pay for the dyna-trac kit. it increased my mileage and i now have less wear and tear on the front end.
roc155, I'm not sure if ur a 4wd or not. If not the hub/bearing assembly is available from parts plus for about $270. It is a timken bearing with a lifetime warrenty. Also I have a super A that I'm lookin for some parts for. If you know of a good source let me know.

I'll bet they'll say....Now this is purely speculation... "With those wheels and tires plus the lift, you changed the load geometry of the front axle thus causing undue excess load on the bearings causing premature failure..."

EMS kit was $1295 + 60 shipping IIRC well worth it for me. all four of the dodge stealerships near by me want between $379 and $425. my buddy as an employee was able to buy it for $349 at his price if i had gone that route but int he communist country of CA taxes add onto the issues and i opted to just spend the extra $500 for the peace of mind since i learned well with my 2002 that these unit bearings are good for about 50-60k miles after that its a crapshoot.
nothing like a sealed unit bearing failing in the middle of Nevada and then having to get towed into town at the tune of a little over 100 miles plus the bill for your trailer being towed (im not about to leave a loaded trailer on the side of I80 for two days) in and then paying a shop to fix it since you probably dont have your tool box with you and oh yeah add in that hotel room nothing like that experience to convince you that that extra $500 investment now is pretty cheap.

For what it's worth, my dealer in Oregon replaced mine @ $1100 and they were not covered under 7/70 powertrain warranty. I protested and they said no, DC considers this a wearable part, kind of like the clutch and brakes.

id be reading that warranty again and having further discussions with that dealership. i have 7 dodges in my fleet all have had wheel bearings covered under drivetrain warranty by multiple dealerships all under 100k miles in the last 4 years
DEZELDOG sorry for the delay i haven't been near a computer for a bit. yes my truck is the 4x4. what i'm hearing is a rubbing sound coming from the front driver side when you make a right turn. I thought i had a tire rubbing issue but i have looked that truck over with a fine tooth comb and can't find any marks or rubs. i've turned the wheel in all directions while inspecting and can't see that it is rubbing anywhere. as far as parts for my super c most things i have ordered from th IH dealer or went to tractor pulls and talked to anybody who would listen. i do have a catalog but i boxed it up (i'm trying to move) when i find it i will pm you with some info.
