whats the diff between an 03 and 04/05 ctd

whats the diff between an 03 and 04/05 ctd

looking at an 03 ram 3500 what is the mechanical diff between that and the newer 04-05 rams 6spd trucks,if any?

04.5 and up has 325 hp and 600 fpt and a cat converter...

Different pistons, injectors, exhaust manifold, slightly different head.
Obviously different programming. Different turbo also.

If the '03 you are looking at is a late truck, it's the same as early '04s. There was a major engine change during the '04 model year. It was at 12/31/03. The CY '03 built '04s were the same as late '03s. Look at the sticker on the valve cover of the engine. If it's says 305 hp, 555 ft pounds torque, then it's an HO engine and has the good 48RE trans (if its an automatic). IMO, the best of the third gen. Better fuel mileage than the later 325/600s & good runners also.

Yes, don't forget the early 03s had the 47RE auto tranny.
