I have a GTO I bought a couple of years ago. It isn't a fuel miser but compared to the Dodge and the price of diesel it is!

Some have noticed better mpg with the Smarty on #1, but I personally see no consistent improvement. Granted, by Smarty had preproduction software in it, and I haven't really run #1 since I updated the SW.

I seem to get the same MPG on #3 or #5-- a little worse on #5 for obvious reasons.

On the bumpy suburban roads around here, anything higher than #5 is not drivable.

driving the lexus when i can to help on fuel cost. at $4.36 a gallon i have to

i think the oil company are just taking advantake of the truckers out there who have no choice but to pay the cost.

just a thought but i think it should be organized that for a 24 hour period all diesel drivers shut down.

Taking the bus or train, I'm not kidding! Between diesel fuel at about $4/gal and the equally obscene tolls around here ($18 round trip to Long Island!), it's actually cheaper to take the bus or train. And I'm not even considering depreciation, insurance, maintenance, etc. It's not nearly as convenient of course, but I am making a stand. I urge you all to do the same!

Man, I have to tell you, I would LOVE to jump on a train or bus and sip on a coffee on my way to work, but unfortunately such things don't really exist up here, let alone in the less developed areas of the country

Straight vegetable oil...

I am kinda lucky, I put a straight vegetable oil kit on my truck about 2 years ago, when diesel was around $2.?? Its a pain to filter the oil out, and collect it, but it has gotten much easier for me since the price here as of tonight is $4.33 for diesel! I have been using it ever since with good luck, and I only use about $20-30 a week in diesel fuel (warming truck up and shutting it down), now that will go up a bit but not too much. I have probably put about 30,000 miles on it with vegetable oil (has around 120k on it now).

I have made a couple batches of biodiesel too, about a total of 40 gallons with good luck. I made bars of handsoap and laundry detergent with the byproduct.

I am thinking of building a biodiesel processor too so that I can use that instead of diesel to warm the truck up and shut it down, which would really save me even more. Plus you can make your own soap, detergent, etc with the byproduct, one less thing that you have to buy at the store in these economic times.

$4 a gallon, you guys are lucky. Here in the UK we're paying over £5gbp a gallon now. Thats $10 a gallon, plus they just introduced a whole load of green taxes for people in 4x4's and higher polluting vehicles. It's getting real expensive here to drive the vehicles you want and work hard to have.

In 2006 I put 1012 miles on my bicycle going to work - 2007 had too much road construction - so I'm hoping to save for our family vacations towing the t/t. The weather isn't cooperating yet.

Rumor has it, The truckers are going on strike April 3rd. Problem is you have some that cant afford to sjut down, and they cant afford to run. So many will still run just to keep some money coming in. Its a loose, loose situation.

I have a 99 2wd 4banger tacoma as my daily driver.

Instead of meeting my buddies up in the mtns we car pool

try to keep it at 70 or below

My next set of tires won't be so aggressive

EDIT: Hi been lurking for a while just realized it was my first post
