First off Welcome. (and please turn off the CAPS!!) At first you should stick with reagular dino oil like Chevron Delo 400 or Rotella T40. I use the Delo400 myself. I did my first change at 3500 miles along with the fuel filter, just to give myself the piece of mind.

As for the G56, I have not had to change the fluid yet, but I will be going back the the OEM stuff as of right now. I might try something different when the time comes. I think the only problems have been because the trucks were used for truck pull competitions IIRC. Normal use and the standard heavy towing will be no problem.

Thanks...rockcrawler......this being my first dodge and wanting to buy the old style 5.9 and a good stick shift before they mess up a good thing ( 5.9 vs 6.7) . Maybe it will turn out much better for dodge than the ford mess (7.3 vs 6.0). I still like ford but they are in a deep hole as for as the powerstroke engines.....it remains to be seen if the 6.4 or is really a 6.0 with a new decal is any good. I still own a 03 P/S with a 7.3 but it would not pull my new fifth wheel because of 13.800 wt....or it would not pull it like I want it to pull....said my wife....been around many 5.9 trucks that had 300 to 400,000 and still running with the big dogs in the trucks that i sell......trucksalesdave....georgia

I'd have to check for sure, but I am pretty sure the G56 does not take ATF?

Yes the manual does say to use the mopar ATF in the g56.....a little thin in my book....Amsoil makes a full syn. 5w30 manual trans oil that I have been reviewing after I get some miles on my toy.....ON the other hand dodge just might know whats best for their g56....My motto...Modify Everything....trucksalesdave....georgia
