what is a transmission range sensor

They need to change that before they can do further diagnosis? The check engine light keeps coming on.

What codes are they getting? What transmission are we talking about and year?

Different location on different trans
AS68RC is mounted outside trans like picture. Both do basically the same thing. Except AS68RC does not monitor trans temp with the range sensor.

On a 68RFE it is mounted inside
The Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) is part of the solenoid module, which is mounted to the top of the valve body inside the transmission.

The Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) has five switch contact pins that:

Determine shift lever position
Supply ground to the Starter Relay in Park and Neutral only.
The TRS also has an integrated temperature sensor (thermistor) that communicates transmission temperature to the TCM and PCM

Thanks for the info. Got the truck back already. Sensor was leaking fluid into its connection. Hope that is all of the problem. Relatively cheap fix as all things Dodge are considered. They said Tuesday at first because they wanted to look for more stuff. My wife went and talked to them and came home with "her" truck.
2007. I will figure out how to make it save my sig. sooner or later.
